Solar ad from 1991

Post by k_c_collectibles »

Hey guys,

I just made another ebay purchase. This time for this:

Image

Here is the information from the listing:
THIS IS A 1991 AD TAKEN FROM AN ANTIQUE OR VINTAGE SOURCE (not a photocopy). IT IS FOR THE VIDEO GAME SOLAR MAN OF THE ATOM. IT MEASURES 10 1/4" x 6 1/2". IT IS IN GOOD CONDITION, NO TEARS AND READY FOR FRAMING.

From that information I take it that this is an ad clipped from a magazine. I have no recollection of it at all so I had no problem buying it as it was pretty cheap. I emailed a few Valiant friends to see if they have any knowlege of it.

Does anyone here know anything about it?

Chris

Its a very early ad for the book, before the character designs were completed. It appeared in Previews or something. I think Greg has a scan on the site somewhere.

Two versions of that ad appeared in the Nintendo comics.
The other had the same image, but a different colored halo around the sun, and a different date up top.

I think it's just an advertisement page cut out of one of the Nintendo comic books.
I know there's one just like it in Zelda #4.

It's on the site at the bottom of this page:

Here's a better pic:

Sometimes people cut advertisements out of old magazines because
the single page is more interesting (to collectors) than the mag itself.
(...such as the Ted Williams soda ads in old "Boy's Life" magazines.)
I didn't realize Zelda #4 was "vintage". :D
