Re-Starting The Valiant Universe
I can't remember if we've done this thread before so if its a repeat I apologize...
If you could restart the Valiant Universe with any Five titles from either VH1 or VH2 which titles would you use to create the new Valiant Universe? For me it would have to be:
XO -VH1
Rai
Quantum and Woody
Solar - VH1
Shadowman -VH1

You've got a good start there. I would exclude the GK characters since it seems likley that they would not be available.
XO
Shadowman
Harbinger
Quantum and Woody
Eternal Warriors (VH1 but inclusive of the whole EW family, specifically Gilad and A&A)
Magnus and Solar would be no-brainers if the GKs were available.
Bloodshot, Ninjak, and Rai would be next.

Well its just hypothetical so I was including the Gold Key characters... but if I had to remove Solar I'd relpace it with Eternal Warrior.

Assuming the writing was at par with the writing during Valiant's hey day.
Harbingers
Solar
Archer and Armstrong
Eternal Warrior
XO
Those to me seem to cover the quintissential characters/stories.
Solar started it all.
XO is the main protagonist for the spider aliens.
Harbinger covers Harada
Archer and Armstrong because there is always a need for an "off beat" title.
Eternal Warrior to show the past (and future) of the universe.
I would include Shadowman, but you only said 5 titles.
If we couldn't include GK characters, exchange Shadowman for Solar.

Harbinger - A team youth book always works
X-O Manowar
Rai/Bloodshoot - some kind of hybrid book with the various descendants of the Blood of Heroes, maybe from Bloodshoot to Obadiah and beyond; Rai itself was originally such a fascinating, offbeat book, going against the grain. Something that also downplayed the unfortunate Image/Punisher parallels Bloodshot might (unfairly) invoke. Maybe it would span different time periods.
Shadowman
Eternal Warriors - as others have suggested, an 'umbrella' book showing a host of characters, namely Gilad, A&A and Geoff and other Geomancer potentials, straddling all sorts of different storylines and antagonists
Solar is a huge character and concept; I would leave him a sort of omniscient force at inception, watching everything else, and then re-introduce his regular book a little later.
(Alternately, Q&W could come back in place of Shadowman or EW)

I would also like to see the V3 Shadowman come back, but I'd like to see Broome do the artwork.Technique wrote:V3 Shadowman would be nice but I would want Bob Hall to be doing the book. If that were the case then I bet he would want the V1 version to work with.Erskine71 wrote: V1 Solar

Ditto. I really like the idea of Priest back on the book as well.

Thank you. My thought was to use it as an rotating story arc title - something to keep the characters out there, and as the company/stories would grow, would be a good litmus test for which charaters should be spun out into their own series. The creative team could even rotate with different characters (who wouldn't want to see BWS do art on a Gilad arc, or write/pencil an A&A arc?) but putting Van Hook over the book as it's chief writer would allow the books stories to maintain consistency from one arc to the next.Technique wrote:Very niceByrneout wrote:Here are my picks, including creative teams listed by artist/writer.

I was also thinking about throwing the Geomancers in there as the "bridge" character between the different arcs.

I think that's a great idea, maybe some of the lesser "filler" story arcs could then be avoided as we ran into when each character had their own book.Byrneout wrote:Thank you.
