The Legends of TUROK: Live-Action TV - could it work?

Post by Valiant_1 »

The following is the concept I came up with for a live-action TV show based on ideas in BOTH Turok V1 and V2 comics. The show would be on a scale of Hercules/Lost World.

Episode # 1 "Journey to the Lost Land" Part One

Tal'set is the bravest and most cunning of the new warriors growing up in the Saquin tribe. He is an expert hunter, marksman, and wise for his age (mid-20's). In a few days he will wed the daughter of an opposing tribe and bring peace to his people. He and she love each other very much and are anxious to start a family.
Tal'set goes scouting with other hunters in an area of Saquin territory that is seldom frequented. The party is ambushed by what appears to be large green lizards wearing silver headgear. All save Tal'Set are killed, and he is taken by the lizard army into a cave to be given to Mon'Ark, their ruler. Tal'set is thrown into a cage with an old man called Chronas that is awaiting execution. Chronas explains to Tal'Set that he is in an area called the LOST LAND, outside of regular time and space, and can only return home through "warp gates" that appear from time to time. The Lost Land is ruled by a queen called "MOTHERGOD" and provides the technology for the DINOZOID army to work for her. Tal'set escapes with Chronas, and kills Mon'Ark's mate in the process. Mon'Ark vows revenge.

End Part One.

Sounds interesting.

I'd add Andar to it, though.

I'd also add a cowboy or someone else from another time period... a Lone Ranger to Turok's Tonto as it were.

I'd downplay MotherGod, maybe make her someone that isn't connected to Solar.

Just make her a scientist from the future that experimented with dinosaurs and gave them intelligence, turning them into Dinozoids.

Episode # 2 "Journey to the Lost Land" Part 2

Tal'set has been living in the Lost Land for 6 months now, staying with Chronas until he finishes his device that can predict where these "warp gates" will appear. In the meantime, Tal'Set has become adept at hunting the "honkers" as he calls them with a specially designed Tek Bow made by Chronas. The Chronasceptre will help get them back home, once complete.
A young teenage boy of Indian descent (age 14-16) runs into their makeshift lab by accident, being chased by Mon'Ark and his army. The boy has wandered into the Lost Land from a time in Tal'Set's future, and his name is Andy. Tal'set rescues the boy, but the lab (and Chronas) are destroyed. The Chronasceptre is split into pieces, some of which Tal'Set now has, some of which Mon'Ark, who gives them to Mothergod has.
Tal'Set takes Andy under his wing and decides to train him as a warrior. In the meantime, Andy tells Tal'Set about an old Saquin legend about a warrior called TUROK, who returned from the dead, killed great monsters and rescued his people.
Together, they have to find a way to get the pieces of the Chronasceptre back, so Tal'set can get back home to his love, and unite his people.

I got some other ideas, such as how to fit in the Light Burden, Campaigner, Timewalker, Primagen and Unity too. Too cheesy? What does anyone think?

Tal'set IS the definitive Turok. That's who I would want to see, and I think most of the comic geeks would also. I believe Joshua Fireseed could be included in the mythos somewhere as well, as long as Tal'Set remains central. I just have to figure out a cool way to get Tal the Light Burden. It's a nice concept, and it would be cool to see work.

It could be some kind of future technology created by MotherGod that Tal gets his hands on.

I wouldn't use the term DINOZIOD. DINOZIODS are the big robot dinosaurs used in Power Rangers :) . They didn't actually use that term in VH-2 or the video game did they?

Personally I was always partial to the idea of Turok hunting down real dinosaurs (some with cybernetic parts to make them more intelligent intelligence) than the "Turok kills mutated dinosaur-like creatures" but, yeah, it could work as a series.

Thanks, and that avatar is the BEST, bandit!

Here was a couple other brief ideas now that the "Bible" is established based loosely (and some not so loosely) from other stories:

Episode 7 : "The Serpent's Tail"

Tal'set discovers a special warp gate that will take him home just minutes before he first arrives in the Lost Land. But if he goes home and prevents his own future, this means Andy would be defenseless against Mon'Ark and the forces of Mothergod when he first arrives.

Episode 12: "Redpath"

Andy reaches into the Light Burden (did I mention he has it by Episode 5?) and pulls out an ancient Indian relic: a warrior's glove shaped like a bear claw that turns the wearer into a bloodthirsty killer. Now that Tal'set is wearing the glove, can Andy save his friend before he kills everything (and everyONE) in the Lost Land?

Episode 14 "Friendly Betrayals"

Tal'set and Andy discover a small tribe of Saquins living in the Lost Land, and they have a missing piece of the Chronasceptre. The Saquins use it for protection almost like a graven idol. There's no way he and Andy can return home without it. Can he convince the Saquins to give him the piece, before Mothergod's army takes it by force?

Episode 15 "The Chaos Effect" (Part One)

There's someone new in the Lost Land: an immortal time-traveller in search of a seed that will give birth to a powerful suit of organic armor called the X-O hidden somewhere in the Lost Land. The armor is to be given to a Visigoth at a point in the past, but two alien races have come to the Lost Land to get it as well: The Spider-Aliens, who lost the armor, and the Primagen, who want the armor. The Timewalker must enlist the aid of Tal'set and Andy to find the seed before the aliens do, and change the course of Valiant history.

Episode 16 "The Chaos Effect" (Part Two)

Using the Timewalker's portal device, Tal'set and Andy brings Aric the Visigoth from his time into the Lost Land to bond with the X-O seed. Together, Aric, Tal'Set, Andy, Timewalker and Mothergod must now defeat the Primagen AND the Spider Aliens and send them packing. At the end of the battle, Aric and Tal'set become blood brothers, and Aric invites him to join his people. Tal'set declines, making his resolve to go home to his life with the Saquins even stronger.

This is a great way to kill time at my job! If anyone has any ideas to, please post! Thanks!

I don't really know if we're gonna do anything else after Solar 2004, that would really be up to the pencilers.

If they're interested, I wouldn't mind putting together a group to do a Timewalker 2005 :).

You could plot it and write it :)

Tal'set IS Turok....but he is still building the legend he will become. In the 2nd episode, Andy tells him about an old Saquin legend about a great warrior who kills great beasts and comcs back from the dead. Well, that is Tal'Set's story! Andy goes through the entire series mentioning Tal'set is Turok, and even CALLS him this in every episode. Tal'set pays little attention to this at first because of Andy's youthfulness, but as the series would progress, he would slowly realize that he is living out a destiny. If there is a legend about someone named Turok to the Saquin people in the future, this means that Tal'set's fate is written out that one day he will be reunited with his people. However, how he gets home is half the fun.

I left out a LOT about this idea, but again, I welcome all additions, corrections and approvals/disapprovals.

As for Timewalker 2005? Hey, MOTA! I'll even work for free! Let's do lunch! 8-)

i think, just V1 specualtion here, turok was turoks name(son of stone) and tal'set was his name that only he and the elders knew. he mentioned that he had three names in turok #0, but i dont remember it to well.

I felt like when I wrote the idea for the concept that it would be a bow to tradition to both old and new Valiant fans. It doesn't follow the V1 totally, but it also has bits from the other incarnations as well. Again, I understand your questions. If you leave Tal'set guessing whether or not he is the legendary one that Andy speaks of in my very loose version of the Turok mythos, then it makes for an interesting twist on the show. The show is called "THE LEGEND OF TUROK". You know he's Turok, everyone else will know him as Turok, but he has yet to see it himself.

"TUROK" could be a word in the Saquin language for someone who does what Tal'set does. Or, it could be simply his name. Since most TV shows don't follow the original concept (which could be why most FAIL) I thought it would be ok to use some creative license.

Should the name of the character be TUROK or Tal'set? Or does it really not matter in the end? I think either would work, personally. BTW, thanks for taking time to read my little posts. I can't talk about this stuff at work, cause noone really gets it. Thanks for being an ear I can bend.

Any other suggestions?

why not make Turok mean: hunter without equal. its what he does, without relating to much to him a the same time.

I try to keep the whole "Unity 2000/alternate timelines" thing going when it comes to the Valiant/Acclaim equation. To me, Valiant represents the main universe, while everything else is a tangent (Acclaim). I do like some of the V2 aspects of the mythos, such as the Turok lineage, and Light Burden. Joshua Fireseed is ok, but he can't match up to Tal'set as the "Valiant One".

Tal'set would TOTALLY be a "hunter without equal", known for his bravery, skill and courage as well. Tal'set himself downplays most of this as "nonsense and bravado", but Saquin legends will remember him as the greatest warrior who lived. Remember, Andy comes to the Lost Land and is the ONLY one he hears about this legend from. It could be a tall tale from a boy, but it's true, and it's what inspires Andy to stick around and learn from Tal'set.

I'll see what I can wrangle on the Timewalker 2005 thing. How is the SOLAR project coming, MOTA. I was thrilled when I read about it?

Thanks again. I too have a wonderful wife who listens and lets me ramble about these fictional people she probably has little interest in, but she listens, and that's what matters! :)

Do far so good.

The script is coming along great, we're doing some edits on it to make sure it's perfect.
