I'm so excited to see this movie. I'm going to watch it first thing Friday. I've heard really great things. Anyone else excited?

Just so long as I don't have to hear one more idiot go "this movie is nothing but anti-Bush propoganda", I intend to see it this Sunday.

And if so much as one person says that in the theater... it will *not* be pretty. At all.

It's phenomenal. I got into a brief discussion of this very debate at my LCS last week. I was calm and rational, and explained how hard it would be for a British man, twenty years ago, to write a scathing critique of the Bush Administration.

His response? "You're an *SQUEE* idiot if you can't see it. A liberal idiot!"

The LCS owner looked at me, lips tightly closed, refusing to respond. I turned my head, and just slowly started walking away, ignoring whatever the guy was saying at that point. The LCS owner then looked at the other guy, and said:

"If I were you, I'd leave. Ric used to work here, so I probably wouldn't ban him for kicking your *SQUEE* in my store."

The guy walked out in a huff, knowing that although he outweighed me by a good 100 pounds, I'd still get the better of him. Hell, I'm certain that a particularly strong toddler would have stood a good chance against this fellow, but eh, the guy wasn't going to be recalcitrant, so I was just going to avoid him.

It's amazing how, once I decided to stop responding, someone ELSE implied violence on my behalf. Perhaps I need to work on my reputation...

Naw. :D

I think Alan Moore's crystal ball was a little murky. He thought Cheney would be president when he wrote it   Moore ran with George Orwell's concept and it is amazing how prophetic they both were. Big Brother IS watching. BTW - has anyone here actually ever seen Alan Moore. I have only (ever) seen that one Charles Manson lookalike photo. Does he actually exist or is it a nom de plume and psuedo character? Seriously. :? Of course he claims to hate DC for "stealing" his book - but yet started ABC with them. How confusing is he?

I suspect ZWH can enlighten me/us. Please help me out my learned brethren. :thumb:

Oh come on....that's not how arguments are supposed to be: rational, reasonable, using facts to support the argument?

Seriously though, the producers may be using this story as anti-Bush propoganda, but that doesn't mean it is and it doesn't lessen my anticipation for it. I loved the comic and I have high hopes for the film. (But, I never manage to make it to the theatre, so I'll probably see it a year or two after it is released on DVD. I still haven't seen Sin City, for crying out loud, and only recently saw Hellboy!!)

The theme is universal. "People shouldn't be afraid of their government. Government should be afraid of the people." I read an interview with Natalie Portman and she mentioned Joel Silver talking to a reporter from South Korea who was convinced the movie was about North Korea. Some people - on either end of the political spectrum - will be convinced it's about Bush. Some people are just a little insane too. :)

Exactly. He had also mentioned that he knew The Matrix was anti-Bush, and that the Brothers W were out to get Bush.

Yes, he was. I currently weight in at 255lbs (this is after dieting strictly for about three months to get down from my craptacular former weight of 312lbs) and he still easily had 350 on him.

The difference is that I *know* I can lift a 350 lb. man over my head without their help. I don't think he could reciprocate on me.

Good point, Moore is a damn fine writer and he hit a "universal" point with V for Vendetta. When someone's looking for something to bolster their own viewpoint or agenda, no amount of context will stop them.

Wow, 312? From some of the pictures you've posted I would not have guessed that. Even 255 seems like it would be a bit much. I would have guessed maybe 200 at the max.

You didn't see the video where he was wearing the VALIANT tee? I'da guess 235 or so looking at that.

Those are actually OLD... like '99 or so. I just hadn't found them until recently.
