Underhanded EBay tactics
I know we've done this thread many times but I got "took" recently by two of these (gentlemen). So I might as well share.
They don't post shipping costs. If the auction ends within their expected range, they send a legit invoice. If they don't like the bid, they make up with ridiculous shipping fees.
Here is an example. I won 2 comics for 99 cents each (that's 2, not 200) from Ebayer cgc*comics. He is in NYC. I am in NYC. His invoice came back as 18.00 dollars shipping plus 2 dollars required insurance. The insurance cost more than the price of the auctions.
. Now what do you do with a (gentleman) like this? If you don't pay him, he gets what he wants. He simply puts it back up to bid waiting for another sucker. And if you pay him, you get exactly what you deserve. I should have paid attention anyway - 42 negatives and 16 neutrals in the last 12 months. Lesson learned. I am no longer bidding on any auction that does not post shipping costs.
Another tactic I have experienced is the Auctions that don't take Paypal. If they don't like the closing price, they simply tear up your check or MO when they recieive it and say they never received. Lesson learned - no more bidding on auctions that don't offer Paypal.
Any suggestions on how I should respond to that ridiculous 20 dollar shipping fee on $1.98 worth of books?

Sellers are allowed to charge some kind of handling fee, but I don't know exactly what is considered to be absurd to ebay. I would guess even they would consider this kind of shipping gouging to be a no-no. I would report them to ebay and see what your response is.
As for me I will not bid on auctions that don't list the s&h up front or ones that have too much bad feedback.

And understand, this isn't an attack, just an observation...
But in the past, when I've posted complaints along these lines....
You've taken me to task for being unreasonable and anal.
And yet......the exact same thing happens to you.
Would that be...........Karma...?

For the record, I am in that mix of negs he's gotten...I'll leave it to you to guess who...if you people would just ASK me, I could give you a list of everyone not to deal with!

Also for the record...cgc*comics' FB is a virtual case study as to how broken the FB system really is. It doesn't work. The guy will sit there and flat out lie through his teeth and say all these books were "under" graded.
He's a liar through and through, and yet, he's still scamming on eBay....has been for years.
Trust me....there's no one reading this...no one....no one at all....who would agree with this fool's grades.
Unless you're a rank amatuer, or a liar yourself.

It's not until you get into the $40-$50 range for one comic that eBay considers it "absurd."
Sad but true.

The funniest thing looking through the FB is that these are the people who bothered to complain....and risk the retaliratory FB. How many people got crap and DID NOT complain....?
Reading through cgc*comics' FB makes you quite literally want to pound his face into the cement....with his "PAIDED" and "PRICE IS $25 YOU OWN ME $13!"....because, you know, the price guide is what he should be paid....
Blindingly arrogant....incredibly ignorant.....it boggles the mind. Here's a perfect example of someone with an entitlement complex. He thinks he's ENTITLED to full guide prices, and will do anything he can to get them, including outright fraud.
It's like a guy who robbed a bank standing up in court and telling the judge he is a criminal for holding the guy against his will.

Sounds like others are also having problems with that seller...

His old Ebay username was "stckwzrd1@aol.com"
which Googles to pages with other unhappy customers.
(Or just Google "stckwzrd1")

If this is true.....this would be the reverse of official policy for nearly a decade.
So, yeah, explain what happened, what you did, if you just got lucky, etc. It would help everyone out.

o.k. you got my curiosity up. I went and checked cgc*comics feedback. wow
His numbers are all effed up. There are so many red flags with this guy its scary. The big thing I noticed was how many postives and neutrals he got that should have been negs. I can kinda understand putting a neutral instead of a neg to avoid retailation (which is b.s. and a flaw in the FB system) but why in the hell would you write "comic was way overgraded..."and still give him a positive, ESPECIALLY since 90% of the negs state he over grades. And these guys weren't noobs. Most were in the 200+ range. Honestly I don't even know why ebay has private auctions. If I could I would contact every current bidder and direct him/her to the cgc article about this guy(s?)

p.s. didn't sibill say there were TWO guys who he was having trouble with? Wonder who the other is
