Interesting Magnus RF #3 Printers Proof on Ebay
Hey all,
Just thought I'd mention here that I have an interesting printers proof version of Magnus Robot Fighter #3 on ebay right now, item # 6630831843. This was the proofing version used as a preview before mass print. There are only a handful to begin with, and they end up in the garbage aftwards so I always thought it makes a great, rare collectible for any hardcore Valiant fan. The book is unstapled, printed on slightly different paper. The pages and cover extend out further than standard sizes and shows printer specifications.
Thanks for looking

Interesting response rubiks, I thought this was in a way a contribution in the buy/sell/trade forums. My initial thought was "this item is worth mentioning" because of it's rarity. I'll be glad to contribute over time as I familiarize myself with this board I just recently found. In the mean time, what other way to reach hardcore valiant collectors than this forum? How would you have suggested I handle this? Post first to discuss the item and then put it up for auction? Post that the item is not mine, and that I merely saw it on ebay?

All I am saying is that I have not been here very long but I did not come straight in trying to sell stuff. Somehow I think even if you did not put any posts here about the item alot of people from the board would have found it anyways. Welcome to the boards. Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?

Thanks for all the support for those who posted positive things. Actually, as far as contributions go I have a few bits to offer, for those who are interested, the orgins of this printer proof was direct from Don Perlins trashcan. I used to intern over at Valiant in the early 90's, probably around the release of Magnus Robot Fighter #1 or #2. Great place that was, as well as great people. Don Perlin was especially a great guy, sort of your "Grandfatherly" type. I remember him flipping through it, then dumping it in the trashcan. I asked him if I could have it, and he said "sure". I've never sold any of my Valiant items as I feel a little sketchy profiting off something I had an inside scoop on, especially being an intern vs. a full time artist. Because of this I've kept these things packed away. Recently I've been trying get rid of things taking up space, I still have a relatively large Valiant collection which I plan on selling off, as well as a few autographed copies.

Could you have waited until AFTER the auction was over to tell this story? For goodness sake, you just cost someone $50 or more!83green wrote:Thanks for all the support for those who posted positive things. Yeah, the story helped my interest even higher. Luckily you were wrong on the price. I'm holding it right now, as Don Perlin has, but I sure ain't going to toss it afterwards.ckb wrote:Could you have waited until AFTER the auction was over to tell this story? PS, as deals with others who love Valiant tend to be, the communication and packing were great.
PPS, I would love to hear more stories.

I forgot to change my snipe after writing that message. Glad it went to a good home. Keep it out of the trash can.magnusr wrote:Yeah, the story helped my interest even higher. Sorry to make you pay a little extra for that one Magnus (since I was 2nd highest bidder)!magnusr wrote:Yeah, the story helped my interest even higher. Luckily you were wrong on the price. I was hoping to add it to my little collection of about three uncut proofs.
Glad you got it!

I believe my snipe was set to $27.27, which I thought was quite the coincidence with your bid. I changed my esnipe passwords to be sure.greg wrote:Sorry to make you pay a little extra for that one Magnus (since I was 2nd highest bidder)!magnusr wrote:Yeah, the story helped my interest even higher. Sorry for the delayed posting, as most of you know, the item did sell to Magnusr! I'm definitely glad it found a good home! Whenever I get off my butt I hope to clear out some more items. Unfrotunately nothing as unique as the printers proof, mainly pre unity stuff. I do remember having an unfolded promo of the valiant vision glasses somewhere, but I can't imagine that being too rare. Man I loved valiant vision. Thanks Magnus for a great transaction and being a general all around good guy!

I underestimated the sale price. It is hard to figure what to bid on something that rarely, if ever, comes to market. It would have been a nice addition to my collection.

If they say "prototype" on the side, then I'll bet you could get at least $15 for them.83green wrote:I do remember having an unfolded promo of the valiant vision glasses somewhere, but I can't imagine that being too rare.
(At least, I know I'd bid at least $15.)

Supposedly there are boxes of those (the ones that say "prototype") somewhere,
but until they turn up... that's just a rumor.
Once they turn up, they'll probably be cheaper than the shipping cost.
