I SAW TUROK YESTERDAY!

Post by slym2none »

OK, so maybe not really, but...

My father and I went to the Ocaneechi Indian tribe pow-wow that was held just a few miles from where my dad lives, and it was a blast! From the colourful costumes and wild, ankle-torturing foot moves of the "fancy dancers" to the pounding drums while they were dancing, it was really fun. There was one guy, he HAD to have been 6'8" - 6'10", a white hand-print on his face, tortoise-shell shield and the most impressive buskin (sp?) of every male out there - one couldn't HELP but have one's eye drawn to him! I really wish I had taken my camera (bad slym, bad, bad *whacks nose*) just to get pics of that guy, but what really got me (to where I had to explain all this to my dad, including another I-can't-believe-it moment where I shoulda worn the t-shirt Justin offered a ways back) was seeing an Indian man, dressed in only the traditional leather pants and with his build and hair the same as Turok's! Only, he was a good bit older, but still - I kept looking around me, wondering if Ander would spring out from somewhere, or an AI dinosaur was going to attack!

Well, that's all I had to say.

Now, I know he used a smiley emoticon to denote he was kidding in some way, I just didn't see how even that joke could be applied here. I'm not so much offended by the accusation as confused as to how, even in a joking sense, that could be applied here.

funny post. we've got alot of native americans around here too. They know how to have a good time!

I think this is a clear case of good intentions taken the wrong way. There was nothing racist about his story he was elaborating, with great detail I might add, on the inner happenings and goings on of a pow wow.

Main point he saw TUROK!!, give a guy some props, that's cool stuff. Who's to say there isn't a turok movie someday and that guy ages really well because he's an native and gets the role of Turok, then we'll all be givin my man some props for seein TUROK at the reservation. YEAH!

Well this is a stretch but perhaps the reference to 'Indian' instead of Native American. I know quite a few people who get their panties in a wad over the use of this word. It is just a word we have grown up with... ya know ? Cowboys and Indians ???

Cowboy: Howdy pard'ner.

Indian: Would you like a straw with your slurpee ?

geez... :P

Well, while I was at the pow-wow, I saw only a few things that said "native American" and LOTS of signs, displays, t-shirts, and the VERY ORGANIZATIONS' logo with the word "Indian" on it, so I don't think there is a perjorative aspect to the word "Indian" anymore. But, that's just my opinion.

That would have been around 4PM his time when he posted that (I'm guessing) so it's not impossible - but a little early for "beer-o'clock" IMO.
