What are the MUST SEE Cons?
Never been to one before (in the States).
Would love to check out a few.
What are the best ones for -
REALLY awesome Valiant (and Marvel, DC etc) comic book art
And usually have a big bunch of artists doing sketches
Also, if there is something great about one of the Cons that is not on my description above but worth mentioning, let me know!
Oh yeah also interested in Action figures, mainly from the 80's (duh!)

San Diego is the obvious answer. Just been to that and Wondercon, which also had great art and guests (missed one of the best pieces I've seen because the ATM wouldn't give enough money and I was stupid enough not to accept the dealer's much higher cc price).cobra_commander wrote:Never been to one before (in the States).

San Diego is however turning into a general media show, with comics just being about half of it.
The greatest thing about San Diego is the feeling that us comic fans are not as few as one often believe.

Re: What are the MUST SEE Cons?
Last Manning Magnus page I saw went for an unprecedented $2200 plus 20% buyer's premium. That was however an unusually nice page. Still, the days when $1000 was much for a Manning page are gone.cobra_commander wrote:I don't see many of his pieces for sale how much are they worth? for an original page? for the prototype?

Re: What are the MUST SEE Cons?
Comic Book Artist #22 shows two concept drawings. The one I saw (or possibly a similar one) and an earlier. The earlier has only the "skirt" and no more clothes, probably inspired by Tarzan. In the text they say at least one earlier concept should exist, with a hammer (a fact that Shooter incorporated in Steel Nation). The one I refered to has a jump-suit.X-O HoboJoe wrote:Really? I believe I have read somewhere also that the whole of issue one had to be redrawn as Magnus didn't have enough clothes. So I guess it went back and forth a bit, with the very original design being rather close to the final.

Re: What are the MUST SEE Cons?
For you. I remembered now that Dark Horse made a very nice overview of concept drawings, so the picture below shows that and the jump-suit from CBA (the other image from CBA Dark Horse has as well). It's just a snapshot, so I decided not to shrink it. Thus it's large and I just put a link.X-O HoboJoe wrote:PICS! Please! Somebody! I've seen the lame-o I-books one and the early 80s design, but I've never seen the originals.
