For the love of Pete!! What the heck are you doing Rico? :-)
Here I am, quitely watching this damn listing for 10 freaking days, and it's staying under $30. I have like a $125 snipe set, far more than this book has ever sold for in the past because I need it for my registry set. So I go and bring up the listing....

Great scott! What the heck is going on? I'm sunk!

And why do these bids show up so early? Sniping is the way to go, let's say for instance if someone wants that book to go with the original cover.ckb wrote:Great scott! What the heck is going on? I'm sunk!![]()
I'm sunk too unless I win on the lottery today.

Unless Frank layed down an Aug002-like $450, you are probably right.magnusr wrote:Looks like he would have won if he had sniped.ckb wrote:My goodness, Rico didn't even win. Holy moley. $200+.

Boy, it's a real let down to be out of the running on that one. I got really lucky and came across 50 copies of H6, but like 35 of them had the coupon clipped. I couldn't get more than a 9.6 out of the other 15 copies, and the 2-4 or so more I had kept from the day and got as part of other deals. Every one I have bought since I wouldn't even consider trying for a 9.6 on, just not good enough.
Hopefully someone has a pack of untouched 6's out there that don't have the normal bindery issues. I'd rather wait than lay down more than $125.
I'd love to fill out my Harbinger run.
There's is still a #1 9.8 listed on Comiclink for $1k. Need that one too, and the price is looking more reasonable.

And, seeing this, it also makes it tempting to do the unthinkable and sell my 9.8s. I like it better when they are in the $100 range because there is a price at which it seems irresponsible to hold them. I'd much rather they stay cheap at some level.
I just have to keep in mind that it's eBay, and does not reflect reality in markets with low demand. It only takes two.

Ok...
that better not be the "Frank" we all love and know. Why? Because... what kind of moron would spend $200+ on that POS book.
Congrats to Frank...

See an auction you like on Day One.
Right-click and set your "Snipe-It! eSnipe" amount.
Go out, see the world, leave your worries behind.
Come back after the auction is over and see if you won.

Last year I reviewed all of my snipe bids and my max bid amounts. I think on average I won auctions for about 20% less than I would have if I had just bid. It also helps to not get stuck in the "gotta have it now moment"IMJ wrote:Interesting

Since you only pay eSnipe if you win the auction, there's no risk in placing tons
of "lowball" offers in the off-chance that one might actually win from time-to-time.
Looking at the last 5 months of my eSnipe results...
27 wins, 137 losses = 16% (about 1 in 6 snipes)
Of those 27 wins, I'd say that 22 were "lowball" bids, 7 of those were won for the auction minimum.
The other 5 wins were only "ok" because I paid a "fair historical price" (average of previous sales).
So, with 22 out of 164 tries at what I consider truly "cheap" prices,
that's a "good deal" in about 1 in 7 tries, and there's no cost at all for the 6 others.
