Bob Layton back in comics full-time...

Post by stephenpakula »

check out http://www.boblayton.com for his monthly update. Here are the highlights:

"That being said, 2007 will herald a change for me, for my fans and for this website.

Some rather startling events have occurred to me in the last month that will be self-explanatory in the next few weeks if you follow the comic news websites.

All I will say at this juncture is that I’m going back to work in comics full-time—having been made an offer I couldn’t refuse.

The assignment, and the circumstances that led up to the deal, will all be made clear to you soon.

Since I’m going back to work, I need some time off from the website and the commissions. That's why I'm taking December off to get my house in order before starting the new gig. In the future, I'll be taking on fewer commission than in previous years due to my new work schedule, so be aware that the wait for a completed drawing might take longer than in the past.

With that being said--I'll be back with full, monthly web updates in January 2007--including the BIG announcement and details concerning what's to come. "

Sounds great. I would love to see the two big boys working together but I don't think it would ever happen.

I doubt it's Marvel, I think Quesada banned him from working there for firing him when Layton was EIC at VALIANT.

I think Layton explained the situation on his site some time ago.

Do we think new VALIANT to be a year away?

Good to hear Bob Layton is back in the comics business.

I wish Valiant, but I know it's slim to none.

I know I said a year.. thats my hopes.. earlier would be nicer.. Im not sure how long it takes to get a comic company up and rolling.. Im sure if they used our collective genius here at FV.com we could have it up and running in no time ;)

I don't see how that's likely considering the legal mess is still not resolved with the rightful ownership of the Valiant trademarks.

Whichever company he comes out with I will be checking it out.

Met him recently at a show and the guy couldn't have been nicer. The only sad thig is I will have to wait a little longer for my commision. No biggie though, it will be worth the wait :)

Zoom Suit II is another mini-series so I don't think he would call that a full time comic job. I know what I am HOPING it is, but it is probably a bit too early for that... :(

So, it's been a "few weeks" any word on what Layton's new project is?

this is purely speculation, and lots of wishful thinking, but check out this link to a short piece about Mr. Layton (and Mr. Michelinie) from Wizard. Reading between the lines, wouldn't it be cool if this was the new project?

Good to know Wizard is willing to have a relationship with Layton. They didn't seem to give him much attention back when Future Comics was around.

A return to Iron Man would be considered a "BIG announcement" for Layton, but I don't think it's it. I could be wrong though.

I have heard from some very credible sources that it's likely that Layton's return is to Iron Man. :thumb:

I love his work on Iron man. It would be interesting to see his take on shellhead with the current civil war storyline.

Well the last major news day of December has gone by and no news of Layton's new gig. Hopefully, we'll get some info in his monthly update coming sometime next week.
