It's the peer pressure.Chiclo wrote:I have two Rai TPBs myself.
There is a blue version sitting on the shelf at my LCS. It has probably been sitting there for nearly 15 years. I'll be getting it in 2 weeks, after the next paycheck.
Damn this "gotta have them all" mentality I have caught from you all.

You misunderstand me a bit.....let me clarify: after the McFarlane hype of the early 90's died down, these books were VERY easy to obtain, especially with the advent of eBay, for VERY cheap prices (think $1-$1.50 for NM/M copies....which I did, with glee.)tarheelmarine wrote:I don't think it's to much to believe that people want that book.ZephyrWasHOT!! wrote:Good call.Brother J wrote: I was debating whether or not to buy his two copies of Amazing Spidey #316 (I believe the first Venom cover) at $7.50 each, but each had small stresses, probably wouldn't have dropped them any lower than NM-, but I still passed.
Yes, this is the first "official" Venom cover appearance, though it's ruined by sticking his head on #315. Ah well. Anyways, it's definitely a key, the second full appearance of Venom (#315 is just cameo), and a good buy....just not in NM- for $7.50 each.
I can't believe how much people are talking about this book after so many years.....
NO ONE was talking about this book for years and years and years, no one cared, and now, after so many years have passed (nearly 20!), people are FINALLY starting to recognize what an important book it really IS, as it relates to the McFarlane run (it's at least the "fourth key" of the run, behind 298-300.)
The fact that the interior art is to die for awesome only helps. Todd was at the peak of his game with these issues (basically #310-320...321-325 are rushed, and/or had other inkers.)
Definitely a "latter day classic."
Oh, believe you me, I'm right in there with you. The first time I ever bought comics as an "adult" (I was 17) was in the summer of 1989, right after I had seen Batman. For a lot of people the 80's and 90's will always be our golden age, and that is what we will look for when we collect.
Cool beans. I love Gold and Silver simply as collectibles. I agree, the stories are, for the most part, horrid. But, I do get a thrill out of owning a book that "guides" for $50, $100, $2000.I know that I have no interest whatsoever in gold or silver age books because they are imo hokie and cheesy, and I don't care to much for the writing or drawing (for the most part--there are exceptions). I do love the mid 80's up to late 90's (when I quit collecting--and I didn't like a lot of Image) and that will be my golden age.

AND....there is some AMAZING art that took place all through the ages.

If you can catch things like this without spending too much time searching thru all the crud then it's worth it. However if you have to spend countless hours sifting throught the rubble everyday for 6 months it starts to lose it's appeal.GGSAE wrote:Well done!Chiclo wrote:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

Good point dan, however it all depends on the individual...i'm a semi-professional stock trader (meaning i still need a part-time job on the side to pay expenses)...there's usually at least a couple times a week when I can hop on ebay and do some searches. Heading into the christmas season i'll have more time to use that search line, collectable comics.Daniel Jackson wrote:If you can catch things like this without spending too much time searching thru all the crud then it's worth it. Very seldom would i spend time during my non-trading hours to do that, i just find it tedious.

I searched the entire Comics catergory in titles and descriptions for "Unity". I forget how many auctions the search returned, but it was not much. Right now, it returns 41 auctions.
Really, it was a total fluke. I had done similar searches for "chaos effect" looking for a CEAR, but hadn't had any luck. It was the first time I had done such a search for Unity and I found that one with just over 2 days left. Occasionally, I will pester a seller that is offering a bulk lot and lists what he has and mentions a Unity or Chaos Effect with a question. I haven't struck red off of anything like that yet, but I have struck gold (CEOG particularly) on larks like that.
I've played around a little looking for other golds that way. Search terms like Ninjak and Bloodshot produce easily manageable lists to search through, rarely over 2 pages. Turok seems to get the longest lists, and all I really want there would be a #1 Gold.

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

they have been very tough to find lately.GGSAE wrote:I see, i never bothered searching using description, just title....the cears are really tough to find, there was a flood of them of about 7 in a 4 week period last year, other than that they haven't been coming up too often. Well - the three TPB's were stuffed in a regular 9"x12" envelope with no padding, but then again, with the best book of the three being in MAYBE F- condition, why bother with a box, right? I am sending these back... I'da kept them for a discount, but the seller wants them back.slym2none wrote:My thoughts exactly. It's coming across the entire country (CA to NC) and they better be in a box for that price - but Greg has the Solar: SD trade at $12 in the price guide and I paid a few cents less than that overall, so I'm not unhappy. I also don't have a VALIANT Era TPB (imagine that?) so that's a freebie in a sense.Daniel Jackson wrote:Shipping seems a little high, but still worth it for the second death trade.

I can't do it - my morals are too strong. What I am going to do is ship them back like i would have shipped them originally, and leave a nice note saying essentially "THAT is how you do it."
