Old Magnus Chronology
Here is a link to an interesting index and summary of the old Gold Key, Whitman and V-1 Magnus runs:
http://darkmark6.tripod.com/magnusind.html
It purports to be in story chronological order. I have no idea how accurate it is.

Re: Old Magnus Chronology
It is very good. Very, very good. It is not exactly in cronologically order, but not published order either. Look at Magnus 20, it is in published order but the description tells where it belongs in chronological order. Some cameos (like Solar 35) are missing. I'd say it's close to perfect.rf1 wrote:Here is a link to an interesting index and summary of the old Gold Key, Whitman and V-1 Magnus runs:

Solar 31 ends with mentioning that Magnus is coming back in his own title. Judging from a bunch of editor-review copies on eBay a few years ago (that someone had picked up at a con not knowing what it was) I would guess that several titles were about to be revived, and that all art had been produced for the revival issues, and then for some unknown reason the plug was pulled.rf1 wrote:Have you heard of or seen the two 1981 and 1982 unpublished Whitman (Gold Key) Magnus Robot Fighter copies he identifies as #48 and 49? I had never heard of them until I saw his timeline. I would love to see them.
All interiour pages for two Magnus issues and at least one cover exists. I have seen it. But I never got to see the editor-copy except for the two pages shown in the description of its auction on eBay. It seemed basically to be a nice set of Xeroxes of the interious pages only.
After that auction it was auctioned again on another site (seemed to have been sold once inbetween). After that I do not know what has happened to it. I doubt it will show up again.

I liked them enough. Clean art, not too fancy. Same with the stories - simple enough, not too fancy. Should mention that both in art and stories it felt different than the classical Magnus. The world was not as fantastic and the villains a bit different as well. One could also feel that they wanted to start anew.Ryan wrote:Have you read those backup stories from Solar? If you have, are they any good?
Frank Bolle (http://www.frankbollestudio.com/), who did these, has a "stabile" style. He has done for instance Juliet Jones and still does Apartment 3-G (http://www.kingfeatures.com/features/co ... /about.htm).and Is their style closer to Russ Manning or other comics from the 80's?
I would say it's neither close to Russ Manning nor other comics from the 80s.
I hope you get the chance to see for yourself, if so please tell us how you felt about them.
Best,
Magnus

Thanks for the great info, I am definitely interested in seeing this take on Magnus.magnusr wrote: I hope you get the chance to see for yourself, if so please tell us how you felt about them.

So Magnus, what are your feelings on the new Ibooks acquisition? I am optimistic, and I am glad they are focusing more on the bookstore market. Let's just hope there is enough of a market there for it to get going.
You've expressed my feelings there. I dare not get my hopes up until I see if it can get started at all...Ryan wrote:So Magnus, what are your feelings on the new Ibooks acquisition? Cool, the link still works! This is awesome, but where is the ibooks tpb? (or are we pretending that never happened?)rf1 wrote:Here is a link to an interesting index and summary of the old Gold Key, Whitman and V-1 Magnus runs:

I've been slowly picking up Magnus, Solar, and Turok GK issues for the past few years. Though not necessarily too pricey, my current financial situation hasn't allowed me to go ape poops over this.
I checked both Overstreet and the Standard Catalog of Comic Books 2nd edition and neither lists Magnus #47 let alone 48 and 49. Does 47 exist and if so, why isn't in the guides? I do know they don't cover foreign releases, if #47 was possibly released in Canada or such. But any info on this would be useful. Thanks.
Phil
EDIT - Never Mind, rf1 identified the books wrong. They're listed as #47 and 48 in the Magnus time line link.

Edit is correct that I mis-IDed 46 and 47 as #47 and #48. Sorry. My goof!
However, you also won't find 46 and 47 in the guidebooks. They were ready to be published when the series was canceled. Thus, the chronology lists them as "unpublished."
The ibooks tpb are not on the chronology because the creation of the chronology predates the ibooks being published.

Here is a new publication list for Magnus, including some foreign printings.
It also pre-dates ibooks, although it is mentioned at the bottom of the page as Volume 3 coming out.

I did not know GK/Magnus #26/2 was reprinted in Lost in Space 58 (October 1978.)
Does anyone know of other published Magnus stories or reprintings besides: Gold Key (Robot Fighter & Lost in Space 58), Whitman (Solar), Valient/Acclaim, ibooks (only one?), and the recent Dark Horse reprints?

Looking above it seems 47 and 48 were mis-ided as 48 and 49. 46 was the last in the published series, 47 and 48 were the two prepared books in the relaunch.rf1 wrote:Edit is correct that I mis-IDed 46 and 47 as #47 and #48. Sorry. My goof!
