Pictures of our "Man-Caves"
Someone suggested this a whiile ago, and I was going to start a thread then, but forgot to ever do it. So here it finally is! This is the upstairs of our house. I made it into 2 rooms, the 21 x 32 room for me, then a 20 x 21 storage area. off the main room is my comic "closet" which is 25 x 6.
I used thumbnails to ease up the page load time, just click on them and it will take you to a large pic.

The last is my price and joy of the Man-Cave - a 1950 Bruswick 6x9 Snooker table. That was my house warming present to myself!
I've showed you mine, anybody else??

Holy crap, that is very cool the way you have that set up, and everything is in just one room? VERY NICE!
My pool table is down in the basement, as are some of my non-comic collectible items. The closest thing I have to a man cave is our spare bedroom, where my boxes and boxes of comics are. Nothing's really that organized in there, so I doubt it would make for a very attractive picture!

Whoa....you must have a huge house to be able to use this much space for your "man cave". I'm envious.....here in Southern California a 1000 square foot starter home will run you $400,000.00 and up, so all my goodies are delegated to my garage, attic, and closets. I noticed on the back wall of your closet you have that "Cool World" Holly Wood clock....I love that thing. I saw one for sale once at a weekly show, and I didn't buy it when I first saw it. Went back the next week with intention of getting it and it was gone.....Damn! You snooze you loose. Anyway, you have a nice set up there amigo!

Mississippi has to have a few good points!
Lots of drawbacks to living in the deep South, but building is not one of them.
Here in Mississippi, I was able to build my 4,000 heated square feet dream home for about $173K last year. Had a contractor with good sources on a lot of things, so that helped immensely.
The Cool World clock is one of the many left over items from the 6 years I spent running a video store(hence the movie posters on the walls). I have a stack of movie standups all folded flat that is about 10 feet high that I am going to dig thru this winter and dress up the cave a bit further, as well as hundreds of movie and comic posters to decorated with. My wife thinks my decorating should be done, so I now just add a piece or two at a time so she doesn't notice much when she does go up there. We did almost have a fight when the Armorines stand up stayed in the main room, and didn't go in the closet like she suggested. Think at that point she gave up trying to limit the "manliness/comic geek" quotient of the upstairs.
Thanks for all the great comments. Glad I shared it with ya'll, and looking forward to what some of the rest of you have done with your stuff!

I have a "man-apartment" but keep the comics in my "man-closet". When you doing the whole date scene, I'm not sure the current date appreciates your nerdy ness that early on.

LMAO, maybe you should try picking up the ladies at a comic shop or convention instead of at the college there!

ManoftheAtom questions
Where can I get shelves (sp?) like those?
And how do you keep them from collapsing because of the weight with those thin legs?
I had them put in by a professional closet/storage organizer (didn't know there was such a thing at the time. The are reinforced steel (similar to, but higher grade than what you buy at Lowes, etc.), attached to wall studs in 3 places every 4 feet per shelf. They were guaranteed to hold 50 pounds/sq foot, so feel pretty secure. Cost right at $1000 to have them done, but should last longer than I will, so it was worth it.
What do the stickers on the boxes say?
I attach labels on the outside letting me know what runs are in the box.
100 books fit nicely in a short box, so they say things like "Avengers v.1 1-100". I try to be pretty specific to make it easy to find everything.
How do you archive your comics?
I group them by company and title. When there are similar books, they will go together. For example, Defenders doesn't fill 2 boxes quite, so i have several small runs of books featuring Defenders characters in with them. Also, in the case of lots of short run series, I group them by company and decade released.
My wife thinks I'm a bit too organized some days, but my 10 -yr old son loves it! I am slowly introducing him to all the good stuff through my collection and through my hardback addiction. Gotta love the Masterworks and Archives!!

Re: Pictures of our "Man-Caves"
Figured it was time to reactivate this thread. Maybe comxfan's huge cave was so intimidating noone wanted to follow up. Here's mine, it should be easy enough to beat:

I do however have the right to hang a few thing outside the "cave":

awesome magnus...it looks sweet.
as for pics of my man cave, which compared to the "man cave mahal" looks like a "man hovel", i'll have to wait until i get my brother outta there...he's currently "vactioning" from school and needed a place to crash for a few...so as soon as i get a clear shot at the "dan cave" i'll pop them up and you can ALL laugh at how pathetic i am...lol
