Magnus Coupon Variations

And judging from Dan's numbers - the lower the print run, the rarer the black, indicating that the reds were used first and black added for larger print runs.BLACK cards are "rarer" in the comics because fewer BLACK cards were needed to make up the difference between the RED initial order and the actual comic book orders.
Myself I was lucky. I have both versions of all. For issue 7 the very last in my last pile (signed issues) was the only black. Issue 4 I actually had more blacks, but I have too few to draw any conclusion from anyway.

How about this for an explanation... (LITERALLY JUST MAKING IT UP AS WE GO)
Maybe the original order for the Magnus cards was for the RED version, based upon expected comic sales.
Once it became obvious that they would need MORE cards (to put in the comics),
the second cardsheet order was for the BLACK version, to make up the difference.
There were leftover sheets of the BLACK uncut cards,
but no leftover sheets of the RED uncut cards because
the RED card sheets were used first in the comics,
and the BLACK sheets were not all used.
Because there were extras of the BLACK uncut sheets, they decided to sell some.
BLACK cards are "rarer" in the comics because fewer BLACK cards
were needed to make up the difference between the RED initial order
and the actual comic book orders.
The POSTER is RED because that was the original version of the cards,
and the plan for the poster likely followed the plan for the cardsheets.
If the poster had been reprinted, it likely would have been BLACK.

I saw it back in the day... Someone sold me one at the 1994 Javitz center NYC show. I sold it before the show was over. I remember noticing that it was different than mine. Posting this info. in both threads....x-omatic wrote:anyone have more info on the reason behind the different coupons?
Apparently this topic was around many, many moons ago. I recently found this article in Comic Buyers Guide # 910 from April 26, 1991:
Magnus trading cards have slight variation
Due to a printing error, some of the binding flaps which fasten the Magnus Trading Cards into the Magnus Robot Fighter Valiant comic book will have a slight variation. According to Valiant, "The printer neglected to add a second color (red) to certain parts of the flap as we had requested. This variation does not affect the cards or the coupons. The error was caught and corrected."
Since all 24 cards and eight coupons were printed at the same time, this random flap variation will be consistent through all issues of Magnus containing the trading cards (#1-8).

So is that then why there are more black\white bordered uncut sheets then red bordered uncut sheets. Because the b\w were not supposed to happen and they kept more of then as uncut sheets.? (used more of the red borders to put in the comics?)hulk181man wrote:Posting this info. in both threads....x-omatic wrote:anyone have more info on the reason behind the different coupons?
