That's what i'm afraid of. I hope it doesn't get as ridiculous as it was in the early 90's.

I mean real value and demand is one thing, but speculation and run away prices are something else.

I may have jumped the gun a little on "ink, inc." He has been buying up Valiant product for a long while. I wanted to accuse him of pure speculation, but he may actually be a fan. If you are on here "ink, inc." sorry about the bad vibes.

Here is his newest one he is after, not over yet.

YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAARGH!

$26 dollars for ANYTHING with the words "Future Force" appearing on the cover is just morally wrong.

Yeah, 26 for #9 is just wacko, but the #21 V.V.S.S. issue will usually bring that if not more. Crazy world of ebay.....

Does it bother anyone else on here about the prices going through the roof. I can understand it bothering us noobs, but what about the guys that have been here for awhile, does it feel like someone is stomping all over your sacred ground or are you guys all right with it?

CGC Rai #3's sure weren't helped by this "hype"...

9.2 - 9.99
9.6 - 33.00
9.8 - 92.00

That's about half what they were a month ago.

Weirdness...

What exactly do you mean?

I like the fact that my collection is increasing in potential value, but i don't like speculation for speculations sake.

I like the fact that I have two long boxes of Valiant doubles that have tripled in price.

I still need to sit down and itemize my non-Valiant doubles.

That is what I mean. I sure as hell don't like it because I am trying to complete my run, not for really any reason of true nostalgia, just to say that I have. I wasn't a fan of a lot of the books Valiant put out, but those I liked I loved. So I was picking them up just because of the sake of the dead universe and to say that I had them. Those of you that have been here for awhile know just about everything there is to know about the books, they have been your own personal playground for awhile. You know what is acceptable prcing and what is not. Now they announce the return (with a new character) of a universe that we all loved for whatever reason and it bothers me that people are throwing around money on things that aren't that valuable. If the core fans aren't going to pay seventy dollars for a gold book where is the sense of speculating at that price.

How high can the prices for these books go unslabbed, the real danger I see is where these books have the potential to go once they have been slabbed. They are ten+ year old books at this point, I am just worried that the same people that left Valiant behind because of the speculator boom busting are returning again with their speculator money. This leaves me in an odd spot, I would love for those people to get taught a little lesson, on the other hand I too would like to see my collection's value rise.

I do like seeing more fans coming back to Valiant, but as far as trying to snag a bargain here and there, it does get somewhat frustrating to see people come out of the woodwork and bid these up like crazy. Just goes with the collecting territory though. I'm just glad I got in on the golds and other incentive books while the bottom dropped out. I would not be paying these crazy prices right now if I just got into the game.

the 1 thing i think that is a little different this time with prices is that COLLECTORS have most of the key issues at this point after 10 years we have absorbed a lot. If shops want it back they will have to pay and my stuff is not going anywhere un less prices get super insane, i enjoy my valiant stuff too much. Im sure a lot of u feel this way so it will drive prices higher faster with most pre unity and key books not being readly avalible. Usually a hot book is hot from the get go and dealers have most of them this time it is not the case :thumb:

It's very early... I don't know if we can conclude anything specific about the current price levels,
but it is a very interesting situation to have some fifteen-year-old books
"suddenly" become active again on the market.

For former Valiant fans, who might be returning to the market...
I think there is a significant "area of price action" below whatever memory
they might have of the Valiant days of the 1990s.

For example, when I returned to buying Valiant issues, I remembered Rai #3 as a $75 book.
So I was happy to pay $8 for my first copy in 1997.

I probably would have been happy to pay $35 for my first copy in 1997,
if that had been the appropriate price (going rate) in the market.
After all, I still would have picked up the book for under "half-price" of my memory.

There's an old saying... "I remember when prices were..."
and it's almost always much cheaper than today.

"I remember when gas was $0.99 a gallon." (1993)
"I remember when some coke machines were $0.35." (1993)
"I remember when Rai #3 was $75." (1993)

Only one of these three memories can still be done easily today.

Is $60 for Rai #3 too much? Depends on who's buying and what they expected to pay.
If you expect to pay $75 for a book, then $60 might look good.

Rai #3 is obviously just an example... gold books, other variants, pre-Unity... pick any of them...
what would you expect to pay if you were just getting back into Valiant since 1993?
Especially if you were never able to buy them "back in the day".

That makes two of us...I figure once I saw his name up there I knew it was over for me.

What really made my stomach turn was he won the same item from the same dealer a week before. I'm afraid if the comic shows up for the third time he'll blow me out of the water...again.

jacked shipping to Canada is what stopped me from going for any of these even though our dollar is fast appraoching par with USD.

Hype may be a factor but I think it is going to be short term. The odd thing is that Unity Red 9.8 has been dropping steadily since a year ago down below 200.00. :o
