Definition of PIMP

Post by Stinger »

For the comic world, let's define the new vocabulary that I haven't seen you guys saying it: PIMP.

Let me define it for you:

Pimp = a comic book that has gold, foil, platinum, varaint art, leather, glow-in-the-dark, and/or etc. that looks better/rarer than the original.

For example:

If you want to look for gold, platinum, autographed or whatever Bloodshot #0, you'd ask to your fellow: "Got any pimp bloodshot #0?" He'll know what you're talking about.

It may be too obvious that I dont need to explain, but I notice you guys dont' use the definition of pimp.

I'd hope to get a PIMP HC Harbinger TPB, that'll be nice. BLING BLING.

Forget the definition, what we need is comic book store owners and staff dressing like 1970's superfly pimps. And talking the talk. Purple crushed velvet suits, diamonds and furs, canes, wide-brimmed hats, calling people 'baby', platform shoes and cadillacs. That is what we need. And not in an ironic way either. Now that might work to drive sales up.... :hm:

...or maybe not...

If they start b!tch-slapping a few of those "cos-players" at conventions then I think its a great idea :thumb:

Oh no.... I live in the A-T-L... I hear more than enough "pimp" talk already.... :?

How about instead of pimp, we use a word like "Stardate: 011020204"? :thumb:

never heard that term to describe what most of us just call a VARIANT.

I'm guessing you are under 25?

I find it hard to believe that the old fogey's that run shops use pimp to describe a variant.

That's a new one on me. We use the word "pimp" around here sometimes to describe the selling of books.

And surely if we were following the 'pimp my ride' approach to the word being used, it would be for a book that was enhanced after publication. I don't know if pee counts though...

It is a crazy idea, but you know... :hm: ...that might just work. :thumb:

'Pimp', indeed (sorry to the original poster, but it doesn't feel like it is something that will 'take off').

hmm,.. maybe Im just an old (35) fogey.. but the word 'pimp' is just not VALIANT enough for me..besides its derived from, well, prostitution.. and, well, Im not sure about you guys, but I dont pay for my se_, I get all the good stuff for free!! :thumb:

Variant is in, pimp is out....

Besides.. if we just start using slang then I'd vote on calling then something else like "cool copies", "groovy prints", "Bad! ones", "Most excellent ones", or the infamous "Hott copy"

Leon, normally this would be disturbing, but you are almost always the one that starts discussing fashion.

I think the fact that 'pimp' has become not only acceptable, but in a positive light, is what's so disturbing. A pimp is someone who has to backhand his ho's when he finds out they are skimming money off the top.

That is NOT a good thing.

I, for one, will never see the term 'pimp' and think anything good about it. That MTV show is ridiculous, not only because of the name, but they don't really make the car or truck better, just appear better.

And that's still not pimpin'.

:D

Haha. wow you guys have made me fee like a young gun in the forum. Actually, Magic players do say "pimp" on their "variant" cards.

Like that guy who has a cheap deck and he'll say he's going to pimp out the deck, he comes back with a complete foil deck that worth triple the value.

So, I thought I would bring the slang to the comic world...
Alright, let's call it VARIANT since it'll make sense for most of you people.

Why stop at 'pimp?' Why not say something is 'slave-driver?' Or "that's anal rape!" when describing something good?

It could be used to describe something like Turok #1 or Rai #9, a book that everyone has and everyone passes around.
