there are some books I need to finish out my VH1 run, and the price is good. but........ would you .......
This store is the biggest comic book chain store in Mexico, with like three stores in the city and many more in the rest of the country.

They opened during the comic book boom of 1992 with the Death of Superman and have been in constant operation ever since.

They've even expanded since then, which is very interesting.

They started with one store and last I knew they had like four or five now. Maybe even six, not sure.

I also sent them an email regarding the quality of the books. Some of the prices are strange.. nto sure why.. I think currency exchange is part of it... but why would one issue ox XO cost $1.64 and then another cost $.88????

Maybe I will call them tomorrow if they dont call me or email me.

I would like to order and fill some holes.
That's probably due to the exchange rate.

I think some of those prices are cover price multiplied by the exchange rate of 15 years ago.

There might be another reasons too.

k_c_collectibles wrote:Just so you guys know - the condition of the books I have bought from them are TERRIBLE!

I bought a lot of key Valiant and Acclaim issues from them a while ago - maybe 2 years or so - and the BEST book was in VF. The rest were in Fine condition with one Very-Good. They all had corner dings to one degree or another.

I am just issuing you guys a warning so you know what you are going to receive.

Chris
Wow. I didn't know that.

Last time I was at their store (which, granted, was a LONG time ago) the comics were in near mint condition.

I guess they didn't store them right.

You HAVE to email them before sending them money because there are a lot of books that are not in stock. Their website is NOT up to date at all...

I cleaned them out of all the books listed above - but that was two years ago. Maybe they did get more in stock since then. :hm:

Just keep that in mind before ordering. :thumb:

Chris

P.S. The perosn I dealt with was David Noriega and he was very helpful as to what they had in stock.

That settles the question about ordering Defiant then.

I'll just go in person to see what they have.

The owner.

He can be an *SQUEE* in real life.

During Free Comic Book Day he sells the comics, he doesn't give them away for free.

Heh.

Get a PO box in Tijuana (or any other border city). Shipping within Mexico is like 8 dollars and change for Estafeta (UPS-like) and 4 dollars and change with MexPost (regular mail)

Before you do consider the cost of the PO box and gas from where you are to the border city.

If it exceeds 10-14 dollars then you're better off paying the 18 dollar shipping fee.

OH, I'm not reconsidering because of the shipping (Being in TN, the border is about a thousand miles southwest of me). But the reported condition of these books being sub-par and wondering which issues are in stock. Right now I've ordered25, but what if only 7 are in stock, then it's not worth the hassle or the shipping cost...

and I really want those Unity 2K #1 variants...

Yeah.

You should send them a checklist of what you want and place your order that way.

I say that Manoftheatom should check this place out and be our middleman!

Can you ship cheaper than $18 flat rate??? Just wondering..

Its a big chance to order enough comics to justify $18 in shipping but then your in a bad spot if the comics come to you all damaged.. :!:

Just sent them an e-mail requesting a hold on the order until availability/condition of said items are determined. Here's hoping that I hear from them (although probably not today, I imaging they are closed on Sundays...

And according to their web page, they've 6 stores (someone mentioned it above)

I do plan to stop by their main store after I come back from San Diego (I'd do it this week but I recently had minor surgery on my leg and I'm on "bed" rest).

I don't know how much it would cost to send them, but I could check.

Too bad I can't go before I leave for the US, that way I could send them there.

They probably don't "ship" it. They have to sneak it across the border in someone's backpack and then hand deliver it to you in a pickup truck with 18 people in the back.

Hey, not saying anything about you, my man! That's my opinion after reading the books. It was well worth the price I paid to find out that very information. Plus, I'm sure Byrneout enjoyed them more than I did.

That's the shipping service known as "Coyote Express," no?
