Grading Question

Post by DevilBro »

I recently won an auction for a copy of Magnus #1 (w/coupon), that was listed as being VF+/NM-. When I finally received the book, the pages were all yellow, and in fact the discoloration transferred onto the coupon as well. I was just wondering, since I'm not an expert on grading, was the book properly graded? If it wasn't, how should I go about bringing it up to the seller? Thanks.

I've never seen such a thing on a Valiant book, save some Harby 2's I have. Can you post a picture.

IMO, yellowing due to age on a modern would put it below VF, but it is hard to expect a random seller to take that into account. It's doubtful he opened the book.

I'll try to scan it when I get home tonight. Thanks.

The seller is "gamingprincess". Here's the link to the auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... &rd=1&rd=1

Call it a reading copy. I would have bought it for $1.04 even if I knew the pages were yellow.

I recently won two buy-it-now auctions from that seller. Turok #1-47 for $40 and X-O #3-68 for $50. Everything was in grade as advertised.

The weird thing was the X-O auction was missing 43 and 44, but INCLUDED acclaim X-O #1-21 plus painted variant #1 and review #1. He didn't even advertise those as being a part of the auction! So I didn't complain about the two missing issues.

For $1.04, it's not worth complaining, but a friendly reminder wouldn't hurt. I'm sure it was an honest mistake.

Yeah but factoring in the shipping, it was $5. I picked up a copy just like it (yellow pages and all) last month at a LCS for cover price, so I already have a "reading copy". Had I known the pages were going to be yellow, I would have never bought it. I realize it wasn't a lot of money, but it's the principle.

I had a similar problem with a couple of books that I bought from Mile High Comics, where I paid for NM copies, but got F/VF copies instead. Luckily I was able to send them back for replacement copies, and they even reimbursed me for the shipping I paid to send them the books.

I guess what I'll do is bring it to their attention and give them the chance to rectify the situation, before giving them any feedback. Thanks to all of you for your thoughts on my problem. You are all part of what makes this board so great!

That was a nice addition. I had a seller give me a Magnus VH2 and a Dr. Tomorrow complete run once in addition to the other stuff I won. I thought that was pretty cool of them.

Definitely wouldn't complain about that. You came out way ahead on the deal with those freebies. :thumb:
