Shadowman run price?

Post by Sect »

Not sure if this is the right forum for this but it deals with buying...

a local guy said that he will give me the entire Shadowman run for a buck a piece, which will turn out to be 43 dollars IIRC.

Is it worth it? The books are NM for the most part. I have approx 15 Shadowman's already, but the earliest one I have is 6. So I do need the harder to find issues (e.g. first few and last few).

I'd do it..just for the first and last 5 issues or so...even though the middle ones are quarter fodder...

THanks,

I've been breaking it down like that too. Plus, I figure with Evil Bay, I'd have to pay for shipping etc.

I would tend to think you could get the whole set for under $25 on eBay. Possibly cheaper if you piece together the issues you don't have. Only shadowman #1-5 and #40-43 are NOT quarter books.

when was the last time you saw a complete run of shadowman on e-bay...

if you start piecing together...start piecing together your shipping charges too...plus it could take weeks or months to get the whole thing together...

I would still take them for what he was offered...(now, mind you, condition would matter as well...suppose it goes without saying...)

I'll back Whet here ... with some patience you can pick the run up a bit cheaper - maybe half as much - and part of the fun is chasing down a few individual issues.

I just bought a Shadowman 1 and 2 for $4 total, and I found a 43 in a 50 cent bin not too long ago.

I guess it's not a bad deal. I personally wouldn't be feeling very thrifty with the deal but Myron is probably right when saying you won't see many complete sets on eBay these days were the seller isn't asking for $$.

I've seen complete runs of Shadowman go for dirt cheap on eBay so if you're patient, you can get a better deal. The best one I found currently would generally be a nice starter set of Shadowman, but if you already have 15 of these books, it might not be such a good value:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 06835&rd=1

Shadowman #4 through #34 with #0 and Yearbook #1 for $16.50 plus $4.75 shipping=$21.25 total

$21.25 would be 64 cents a book for 33 different comics, pretty good deal for eBay.

yeah...and 50% of guide on just 1-4 and 41-43 is $22...I still think it's a good deal (what he has been offered)

Okay,

good thing I asked you guys first then.

Here is the deal, the place I go to is a bi-weekly "convention"

I'm going to stop by today around 4 so I'm hoping someone can give me some replies or feedback before then.

So I take it that I shouldn't buy the whole run...but I have a feeling this guy is going to try to take advantage of me and sell me the issues for more than worth.

I find that the prices on this site are okay to use as a reference but some are higher than what I would actually pay for.

How much should I get 1,2,3 and the last 3 issues for?

Is $43 truely a bad deal or is it a so so deal (remember there is no shipping charges). As for the complete runs for ~$22 dollars, is that the extreme or is that an average.

I'm trying to guage the positives and negatives because i'm a bit tight on money now but also I don't want to pass on this deal if it is good. THanks again for your help guys.

IMO complete runs are rare...the one Brother J was looking at was 4 through 34...you would still be missing 1-3 and 35-43 all of which are the top dollar issues (well outside of 35-39) (and issue 0 also)

issues 7 through 39 are quarter bin fodder...the others, well are harder to locate and more pricey...like I said prior, 50% of guide for 1-4 and 40-43 all totaled is $22...full guide (which nobody likes to pay) would be around $44...just for those 8 issues...[/url]

IMO, if the guy has a complete run in NM condition, you should just take it if condition wise really matters to you. Sure there are cheaper deals on ebay, but I find many of those books do not tend to be in NM shape as advertised. Especially those post unity books where you find them in quarter bins. Sellers usually think people wouldn't care about the conditions of post unity books and just advertise them as NM when they are really in F/VF conditions. Most of those post unity books have been sitting in those quarter bins for the last decade and god knows how many hands have went through them. I would save yourself the trouble and just get the entire run off him if all of the issues are NM as advertised.

I'd probably just take the entire run all at once myself.
I think the price is pretty fair, you might even be able to talk him
down a little bit. The work of putting it all together is already done
which should count for something.

I wonder who this person is? :P :D

I thought a buck each was a great deal especially with all the extra thrown in for the lump sum deal. :thumb:

Perhaps it's one of those "good ideas/good prices" if your looking to finish the run and/or love the character but not so hot if your a sucker for "cheap bargains" or just the "thrill of the hunt". Whetteon has spoken. :P

Haha,

it was a good deal. But I had to consider the fact that I had already possessed approx. 12 of the issues and therefore would be paying for comics that I did not need or want.

In the end, I felt that getting the first few issues and the last few were worth double buying.

In the end, I had to factor in the price and wait for shipping and decided that it was a good deal, which is why I took it :)
