Anyone want to warp back to Valiant 1993/94?
Know of a dealer whose specialty is primarily hobby stuff and not comics. There is at least 40 long boxes of comics. Never seen a comic sale in my entire life (19+ years) at that store. Anyway, a lot the comics are Vf to fn/vf because they are not boarded, but at least bagged. But so many of those comics are bent in those racks. Back in the Day, rumor was that you could buy Superman #75 for only $15 (shortly after release)
Valiant Time warp prices to this day 2004
Deathmate Red Gold $50 (FN)
Deathmate Yellow gold $50 (FN)
Deathmate regulars $3 to $5 each
Rai 9 (not gold) $2.75 vf and others:x
Magnus commons $2.75 each
Solar #10 (X2) fn/vg 4.50 each
Solar commons 2.50 each fn to vf
Eternal Warrior commons 2.50 each vf
Manowar commons #7 to 62 2.50 to 3.00 each vf+ to vf
Acclaim various vf+ to fn 3.00 each
Don't recommend buying most stuff at these prices, but if you want to relive Valiant 1993/94............this the worst way to do it

Yes, there's a card store owner in Fresno who is similar...keeps his Valiants in the back and won't even show them to me. That is, after he didn't trick me into paying 60 bucks for a Unity set...like right! I can get them for a buck a pop at the other comic shop nearby. He thinks his Valiants will be "hot" again one day, and he's "willing to wait." Wait on, dude! And he'll be waiting a long time before I enter his shop again.
He told me the worst thing that ever happened to stores like his is ebay. Yep! (I told him some stores like ebay, because they can unload their merchandise, but he grimaced at that suggestion.)

Hey Bama,
That card store owner sounds like a *SQUEE*. Just like the rest of those sports cards/speculators who entered the comic market and help flood the comic book market back in the early 90's. I'd say they were at least 40% of the reason the market was flooded with over printed crap.
Guys like that have no business selling comics. I hope he goes out of business.
Sorry for the rant.

There's nothing wrong with 'holding back books' to 'wait for them to get hot again.' If they're not on the wall for sale at some ridiculous price, more power to him.bamaphilosopher wrote:Yes, there's a card store owner in Fresno who is similar...keeps his Valiants in the back and won't even show them to me. The diplomatic thing, however, is just to say 'sorry, I don't have them for sale.'...which is completely true. I have tons of crap that's not for sale.

But it is true...the worst thing that could happen to people who don't understand Free Market Economics is eBay...opens up the floodgates of competition, and really...most folks just don't like competition.
I hear North Korea's like that.

chuck--I think you're right, I bet he was a speculator and that he got burned (surprise, surprise).
Hey, zephyr, I agree that he doesn't have to sell them if he doesn't want to, but like you said, it was silly of him to let me know he had them. I guess I turned him off when I wouldn't buy his Unity set for 60 bucks. Oh, well.
I wonder if he was burned back in the day by speculation. If so, I can understand his concern. But if he's just being greedy, well, his sitting on those books might backfire on him. That's all I'm saying.
I still think it'd be better for him if he moved his products and tried to compete, but again, he's just a card-shop owner and obviously his first business isn't comics. He also tried to sell me a VH2 Magnus for cover price. Like right, when I can get them for a buck. So again, the comics market obviously isn't his bread and butter.

Re: Anyone want to warp back to Valiant 1993/94?
Tried to sell comics there back in 1990, but wasn't offered anything after saying they would look at my comics. After about 3-4 weeks, I took my comics back. Decided never to bring my comics there again and only visit when curious (maybe once a year). "Rumor" (that great word again!!!) has it that they give about 10 to 20% of "guide"----but generally overprice on guide when selling. I think this place "cherrypicks" the good stuff and leaves you with everything else :xtbrezz wrote:Don't know where this place is but you can get these Deathmate golds on ebay for $5-$10 buy some take them there and offer them to him for $20 nice profit for you and he thinks he'll get $50dewmaster5708 wrote:Deathmate Red Gold $50 (FN)![]()

I would be lucky to get $2 each for the deathmates if they were gold. Selling off of Ebay to that dealer was a good idea, but that 10 to 20% of "Guide" (the guide between the guy's ears maybe?, Wizard?) kills that potential cash cow. Yeah I know a store has to make a profit, but don't overprice and burn some newbie.
