Maybe we have already been told indirectly by the use of the Lost Land and Chicak in the upcoming animated movie of a relationship between VEI and Random.Daniel Jackson wrote:Now that the legal battle is over, hopefully we can now be told the status of the Magnus, Solar and Turok.
The copyright notice in the comics is clear. Any new character in the comic, was the property of Voyager, not Western.

If someone buys the rights to produce a product based on an image doesnt that usually run out at some time? Its not like it is a forever thing, right??
If they can get Magnus and Solar worked out then we have everything we need... I think![]()
Oh yeah... we need..... SHOOTER... well, it would be a fun thing
Both DH and IBooks couldn't have the license to print new Magnus material simoultenously, so if IBooks published a Magnus comic, that means DH does not have and never did have the license to do it themselves.

When DH picked up the license for classic Solar & Magnus IBooks had the license for NEW Magnus material at the same time. This didn't include Solar to my knowledge.

my disdain of that individual goes far above any desire i might have to ignore him.Brother J wrote:Maybe you could just post and try to ignore the guy...cinlach@aol.com wrote:i can't go back to the newsarama announcement thread...i don't want to end up in a scuffle with "Quacko" (a.k.a. i know my limitations well enough to know that eventually the desire to verbally strangle "Quacko" will overwhelm my desire to not turn the victory thread into a bloodbath of biblical proportions.
better to step away gracefully before the temptation gets to be too much, besides...he doesn't need my help to look like a freakin' dipthong.
i know there's folks here who get along with him, and possibly still call him friend...but that ain't me.
he contacted me completely unprovoked about 2 years ago with the vilest sort of slander involving someone i know to be not only a good man, but an honest and ethical one as well.
to say the things he said to me about this person, that he had apparently said the exact same thing to others as well, was tantamount to character assassination of the highest order and i will not tolerate it.
i have zero restraint when it comes to that individual, he needs to be verbally slapped hard and often.
so out of respect to dino, jason, and walter i've got to limit my time over there.
otherwise i know exactly what will happen.
am i weak? lacking in self-control? antagonistic?
no, just passionate about not suffering fools lightly.
i do appreciate the advice, however i just know i'm not capable of following it.

Harbinger's core concept and past sales & marketing success make it a top contender. A new Harbinger book would appeal to both mutant collector and discriminating reader alike. To me, its the smartest choice for a launch title.VHMMV wrote:I'm glad to see that Dino and Co. bit the bullet and settled this puppy. Really, when you get right down to it, it was the only practical alternative.
It'll be interesting to see what new products they'll unveil now that they've got clear title. Today's marketplace isn't yesterday's, and if it was me, I'd concentrate all of the Valiant goodwill on a single title, rather than unleash even just a few. No new line from any small publisher in the last few years has been a success, recognizable properties or no. I wonder who'll be first up at bat?
Going with a single title rather than releasing a whole line figures to be a smart play all around too. The first rule of good drama is to start small and build much like Shooter and Co. did in contrast to "Birthquake."
Plus, there is always the flip-book concept.

I have been trying to explain this situation to a few of my friends. They don't get it. They are not comic people. Basically I tell them this is a really big deal to Valiant fans.
I was just talking with Brian yesterday about this. I think it would be wise to spend some time really focusing on getting a creative team together and start releasing stuff late in 08 or maybe even 09. But, I think they should keep the HC's coming.

Agreed......100%. Assuming, of course, this is financially possible.Rubiks-Q-Bert wrote:I have been trying to explain this situation to a few of my friends. They don't get it. Well I would assume so because why else would they invest as much time and energy into becoming the sole owners of the universe. But that would only be my assumption.

Hey even if they were in need of some cash injection, how long would it take to kick start some auction events with items donated by Valiant fans to help out with the funding of the first new project.
I would more than happily throw a massive ebay auction together myself and donate all the proceeds to VEI like yesterday.
HMMMMMM !!
got me thinking here.

In the above trailer at the 58 second mark there's a copyright notice that ends with "Used by permission".
WHAT is used by permisison? I can't make it out. It basically says that the Turok TM and (R) is co-owned by Classic Media Inc and someone else, but I can't make out who. It's like three words long.

You saw more than me.
My picture quality was so bad in large i couldnt make the writing at all.

It seems to say Entertainment Rights Group Company. Used by permission.
That tracks with what Quato said
ManofTheAtom wrote:Interesting.Since Dark Horse has been using the old Gold Key characters, it's a safe bet that a licensing arrangement has already been made with Dark Horse. Have no fear though. The new Valiant owners are using the same lawyers that represent Entertainment Rights PLC. It's amazing what you can get done when the lawyers are on your side.

Well looks like i have to wait for you or one of the other guys to let me know when you do.
Im noticing im not the only one who now has nothing more on my mind than the next phase of the legal issues for VEI and the Magnus, Solar & Turok publishing( new material) rights.
However I realize these guys must have a good plan and if its still gonna take a lot of time and effort and wrangling for us find out the real story Im willing to wait patiently so its all not rushed and I offer my full support at all times.

I do hope that they get the licenses for all three characters (and hopefully even more). Without Solar and Magnus VALIANT is incomplete.Draco wrote:Well looks like i have to wait for you or one of the other guys to let me know when you do.

Incomplete.
Possible though something i would support till my head falls off but preferable to wait and be all at ease.
