Here's what I have:

A&A #0 9.8
Harbinger #3 9.4

As you can see, my pre-unity CGC set is rolling right along. ;)

By the by....there's STILL not been a 10 pre-unity book. The oldest one is now the Unity #1...which convinces me that a Unity #0 or two is out there.

Maybe, even, here....;)

I do like the way that ckb is going about putting this set together and seems much more "natural" than just buying slabs off ebay...congrats.. :thumb:

Thank you!

But don't knock buying slabs off of eBay! It's the only way I'm able to do what I'm doing. If I couldn't break even by selling the extras I couldn't do it at all....(But I understand what you meant.)

I hope to hear from CGC soon on what they are kicking out from my latest pre-screen. Nothing yet.

Here's the million dollar question in regards to the pre-unities:
Why are there no known CGC 9.8 or 9.6 copies of Shadowman 3? :o

Fairly common Valiant but...I don't know... it gets no respect. :P

I know why lobo. Out of the 20 copies I have, maybe one is a 9.8 candidate. There seems to be a problem with it and #2 (out of 30 of these maybe 2 for 9.8) in regards to their binding. Anyone else ever notice it? It doesn't matter when I acquired or where, they all seem to have the same "wavieness" to them.

I'll take one if anyone has got one or one raw they think is a high candidate for 9.8.

I had two that I thought had a shot at 9.6 at my first pre-screen, and they were kicked. I chose from about 6. I've never had/found a big pile of Shadowman 2 or 3.

Dark cover, tends to get wavy if not stapled right.

Dang, I rememeber I went to a comic store down in Virginia. I dug out the guys old box of Valiants and he literally had a stack of Shadowman #2 in untouched condition. I passed up on it because as said, it was a common pre-unity book. I'm gonna have to start thinking twice about it now since I will be heading back down to VA this weekend.

Depending on where you're going to be in Virginia... there is a REALLY small comic show in Tysons Corner on Saturday. The last time I went to this show, there was only 4 vendors with comics but one of them had some very nice bronze/modern books for $1 or $2. I plan on going myself... If you're interested PM me and I'll hook you up with the info

Even if there is a slight binding issue, that is a printers flaw. Should it not affect the book gaining a 9.8 grade if everything else is flawless?
I have 40+ copies of both #2 and #3..... some time soon I will take a closer look at them and consider them for submission. I have yet to submit ANY books to CGC yet so i'm a newbie in that respect.

lobo..

Harbinger 7 seems to have the same problem. I submitted one that just had the binding problem eveything else was great. Sharp corners, glossy, no dings, and 0 stress lines and it got a 9.4. One of maybe 2 or 3 that I have been wrong on when sending it in. In all actuality I really didn't know what it would get....I was kinda testing the waters.

Rico"ooops....would ya look at that...I seemed to drop a little platinum on my Bloodshot #0. Hmmmm..... :P "Mortis

Just want to give you a heads up if you're planning on submitting those for grading. CGC will only allow one very minor defect to qualify for 9.8.

Harbinger #7 and now I'm thinking that Magnus #13 and #14 have that issue as well. I have a stack of Magnus #13 to check too.

The problem with Shadowman #2 and #3 is that they are so damn common. It's the one and only pre-unity book that I could consistently find for $10 or less, even at the height of the craze,

Soooo....I doubt anyone took as much care of them.

I need a #13 9.8 if you can scare one up. I have a 14, and I agree it was tough. Screened (myself) 20+ copies to come up with like 5 (to CGC), and got 2 9.6s and 1 9.8.
