One of my "other" interests - Paper Currency

Just some of my small sized $5 collection ... not the greatest examples of some of these types but that is all I have scanned in right now! I have a few key biggies to get but type set it getting pretty close to complete. The new colorized versions of the $5 came out last week but I've not snagged one for the collection.

Anyone else collect??

Nice collection, when I was a little kid my great aunt gave me some nice silver certificates from the 1860's which I still have. I do not that much about paper currenty values, but they are just something cool for me to look at an appreciate. How did you get started collecting yours?

Pretty cool. I have some Confederate bills and a Schilling from Pennsylvania (when it was still a colony). I just love old stuff.

My father has collected paper currency for many years and at some point when I was old enough to really appreciate it (USAF years?) he would send me a bill or two at Christmas from his collection. ~10 years or so later I looked at it and really found some of the history and art (more found on older large size bills that are not etched in most of our minds today) to be very interesting. I've been actively collecting for about two years now.

I would love to have some of the mid-late large currency but in the grades I would enjoy it is just too rich for my blood. Either that or I have too much that I would rather spend that money on. I will post some of my large notes later maybe. Would love to see yours and I can tell you exactly what they are if you like.

I find that stuff extremely interesting as well. I would guess what you are describing Colonial currency. The colonial is probably older and more ornate than the Colonial but both very neat. Those are yet two more areas that I have not gotten into - too much let to do in my collection as it stands today!

Well, they are not worth any less than $5!

That is the nice thing about United States currency - every issue ever printed still retains its face value and is not demonetised as most? other countries do. There are pros and cons to it though.

The most expensive of the bunch ($700ish) is the 1929 National Bank Note and the least ($20ish) is the recent 1999 star note. I need a WWII issue Hawaii Emergency Issue that will be a couple hundred in CU as will a 1928 numeral district note.

Thanks! You will not find anything other than a Federal Reserve Note (green seal and serial numbers) in circulation these days ... mostly the new large or colorized designs and rarely anything older than 1970/1980's. Every now and then some kid raids his poor old pops stash of old bills and something really old pops up. Back when I was a kid (80's) every now and then you'd find a United State Note (red seal) or Silver Certificate (blue) but it was very rare. Once I think I found a red seal $5.
