Novi Comic con?
I think they've renamed this one the Motor city comic con, but it is in Novi, Michigan, at a place called the Rock financial showplace. It is happening the 18th-20th of May this year and parking is 5 bucks, advanced tickets are 20 for a single day, 45 for the 3 day pass. I only live about an hour away, so I'm going to try to make it this year and see if I can't get some stuff. I'll try to post more info on this when I get back to where I have it. Not at my reg computer right now. In fact, maybe someone on the board that is from the Detroit area knows more about this? just wanted to give the show a shout-out. it's the biggest one in the state, I do believe.

Re: Novi Comic con?
I used go every year (missed the last 2 and will not be able to attend this year). It is a nice show for getting sketches/commissions & main stream comic books. Not much on the Valiant side for the most part in the past but if you dig around enough you might be able to find a few here and there. I always was volunteer at the show so I would be able to go free (don't think it is worth the $45 + $15 for 3 days). That also allowed me more access to the artists for sketches & artxodacia81 wrote:I think they've renamed this one the Motor city comic con, but it is in Novi, Michigan, at a place called the Rock financial showplace. I will try to make it but its hard to justify 20 dollars for a con that is at best average, but closer to sub par if you have ever been to Wizard World Chicago, Mid Ohio in Columbus and especially compared to Heroes Con in North Carolina.
Though I did meet Jim Shooter in either 03 or 04 there but considering I had zero valiants on me it sucked. But talking with the man for a while was great discussed Valiant and Defiant. I mentioned wishing he could have got Ditko to do Dark Dominion and his early legion stuff being reprinted.
Either way I would be interested in meeting up with people dont know about the Friday. Im more of a show up on Sunday and haggle down the prices as the dealers would rather sell it then box it back up.

I'll be there, most likely the Sunday (maybe Saturday). My best buddy does the 'volunteer' work at the shows biggest, high dollar table, so I hang with him (but I still have to pay, but get to drool on cool old books)
I can't volunteer as i can't stand all day (need to rest my bones on a too frequent basis, to be any effect at a job there)
Meeting up would be cool, I've been able to find stuff every time I go, certainly not like the stuff I found at WWChicago. But was still worth a day out!

Now I only go to the con here to get stuff signed.IanAlexavier wrote:I dont plan on getting any books signed, sorry. Ill mostly be going to grab some issues and meet up with anyone from the site that will be there. Im hoping that maybe VEI will set up some sort of table or maybe have an artist or writer there
Usually I never find any books that I want. Mostly the stuff for sale is all recent, if there are back issues it's usually the same stuff from last time.

The Novi show is a good one for certain things, but it's not strictly a comic con and there are larger ones. Still, it is fun. It's the biggest and the best one in the state. I'll be busy hanging with whoever goes with me, anyone I meet from the site and hunting for books I need. I do have a question, though. How bad is the back issue market in Australia? I know that some of the UK members say it's slim pickings there, so I can imagine what it might be like in Australia.

If the UK members have slim pickings, then in Australia it is almost no pickings. Of the four comic stores in the Sydney metropolitan area (2 in Sydney & 2 in the outer suburbs) you don't find any back issues at all.xodacia81 wrote:The Novi show is a good one for certain things, but it's not strictly a comic con and there are larger ones. I've had a bit better luck picking up Valiants at the conventions in Brisbane & Sydney. But most of them were duplicates of issues I already had.

X-O... can you edit your first post here to identify people who are going? Count me in
What day do you think you'll be going??
Im up for whatever day people are going to be there, although I may hit it on Friday just to start hunting books
Lets determine a meeting place.
I think I'll have a VALIANT hat made up.. make it easy for people to spot me

I can do that for ya...in exchange for some Brisbane lions stuff or AFL stuff, sound like a trade? send the stuff to me and just send some AFL trading cards packs in exchange for doing it?Flinx wrote:Is anyone who is going to Motor City intending to get any books signed by the following guests;

If so, are you able to help me by getting a couple of books signed for me?
I can send you the books & will cover the costs for shipping back.

I think thats cheap and fair!

I think it would be great if whoever is in the region that wants to attend, does and further, if we could all get together at the convention. I've said it before, but barring disaster, I'll be there the first day with advance tix, thus letting me in about 30 minutes early. Anyone else for SURE gonna be there? Let's see if we can't arrange a little gathering of VALIANT FANS to represent the area

Ok, so I need to get my advance ticket ordered so I can get in 1/2 hour early on that Friday.
We can get in at 12:00.. we should be there at 11:30
We should meet around 10:30 to hang out and shoot the breeze.. maybe grab somethin to eat before going in, right?
So lets plan to meet at 10:30 at a restaraunt near by?
