Does he have several hundred thousand dollars to spend....?

Yep.

I emailed him the link, and his concern was the NGC grading instead of PCGS. He is kind of a PCGS snob (I know nothing about the two, but he seems to think the market says PCGS is much superior). He felt like it would go about $500K, but if it were PCGS, it would be $800K - $1MM. He sounded like he was entertaining it on the basis of crossing it over, but that is a risky game. I will talk with him tomorrow about it again.
Oh, and if he's inclined, have him come register on the board....it'd be really nice to chat with someone who appreciates it as much as I do. :)

And, if he hasn't figured it out already, that auction in Illinois is going to be THE place this year...coins that you never see but once every 10-20-30 years are going to be there.

Make sure you mention the 1804, the 1794, the 1802 Novodel, and the 1870-S. Kings of the hobby, one and all.

PCGS might honor the NGC grade with their crossover program, so you never know.
The way he explained the crossover program to me is that PCGS won't even crack the case if they won't give it the same grade or higher. Is that true?

That's wayyyyy over my head. I'm in the same league with you guys; the guys who are concerned with crossover policies are like your friend: able to drop half a mill on a coin. ;)

That's a lot of cabbage! Should be in a museum, IMO.

Ah, I see... I'd have gone with...

I did indeed.

It's easily a $2 million coin.

There's no way it will sell for $325,000.

But if it DID....you can BET I'd be calling in everything I could to pay for it.....then selling it again....

But, the odds of winning this coin for $325,000....?

About as likely as finding an Action #1 that CGC will grade 10.0.
