Interesting. I guess this is what happens when us valiant freaks try to give someone a fair price for what they got.

How about next time someone doesn't know what they have we rob them blind and work out the rest between ourselves?

Sounds good to me. :thumb:

Here's another thumb hoping the guide price suddenly returns to what it was a week or two ago -----> :thumb:

I have to say I agree with a drop but only to the previous price and only because even though we know $80 is more resonable there is no precedent to support it. When you start making a price guide proactive you run the risk of becoming what wizard was in the 90s (a hype machine).

Exactly, and we all see how quickly it can get out of hand.

No way would that auction gotten to 464 with like 6 days left on it if the price hadn't been doubled. On the other hand, the price bump may (or may not have) brought these books to market giving Valiant collectors a chance to grab them which is most likely what was intended by the price bump. :thumb:

I inquired with the seller as to why he ended the auction. Here was his reply:

"Hi,I would like to apologize. I made a mistake. Are you Still interested in the books.I fell bad and might list then again."

WTF? Now I have no interest in bidding on these, just a curious observer.
I'm thankful I already own the book. It has been very interesting to watch.
I can't believe the seller ended it early and sounds like he already regrets it.

That's a pretty lame explantion in my book. How are we supposed to trust this guy now? For the kind of money those things will be going for it doesn't ease my mind to read " I made a mistake" and that's it.

Sounds more like because the auction was going so high, he thinks he can get more dough if he lists them individually. Greed is a b itch isn't it?

SO I guess it is true you are Christinacollectables. All this time it was just speculation. Thanks for clearing that up.

david_albuq wrote:It's not a shame, it's just lame. As my momma always told me, "a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush." These dork-@$$s that close out auctions early with live bids on them, tick me off.

As many of us have pointed out on numerous occassions, once someone bids on your auction, that becomes a contract with the bidder. Be a man and let the damn thing play its course instead of bailing like a punk.
It's back up:

And I'm the first bidder...BOO YAH SUCKAS!!!!!

I suppose if 10 PGX'd 9.8-10 level copies show up for sale by christinascollectables, it will answer even more questions . . . :D

Man, those knee-jerk posts can get you in trouble in the business world.

Ah, congrat's to the man; the pull down has undoubtably cost him some high bidders, but it takes stones to toss 'em back out after getting a lot o' people :x .

What does I made a mistake mean? He accidentally click the right buttons on ebay to cancel the auction? Hmm, sounds waaaay too fishy to me. Maybe he made a mistake about condition too. And he still hasn't mentioned if he has more then 10. I think I'll stay away but maybe not, we'll see.

Sure it would have...hell, I was considering bidding $500, and I almost never look at the guide. I had no idea it'd been bumped until Greg mentioned it here.

Makes sense to change the price guide now, though...

$80 was an estimate for the first sale, or two...
(No copies were sold on Ebay from 2002 to 2004... $80 was a good guess.)
But I don't think that's true for ten.

$50 is a more appropriate estimate for 10 immediate sales...
http://www.valiantcomics.com/valiant/issue.asp?cn=1248

Plus... it's not like the guide is the law...
Shadowman Vol 3 #2 variant sold for $399 when the guide said $25. :P

It's already back up to $152.50 and Zeph is talking like he thought $500 was fair before....

Anybody that gets taken by this loser deserves it....

Dude...it's all about what the market will support.

I have no doubt that this guy's got the 10 books, I think someone made him an 'offer' and he jumped at it...and then realized that was a mistake.

If he DOESN'T come through...chargeback.

Just a waste of time, but no money lost. ;)

And I didn't say I'd WIN at $500. ;)

BUT...I have no doubt that NOW, the books will sell for LESS (perhaps substantially less) because of these shenanigans.
