How safe is it to send your books for CGC grading?
I would like to send some of my older books to get them CGC graded, but I'm afraid that they would get damaged, lost, etc. by sending them to CGC. Has anyone ever had any problems? I would like to get a Daredevil #2 (silver age) and Green Lantern #3 and #7 (silver age) graded. Their prices seem pretty steep is there any way to get a discount?

Well, given how many Detective#27 Action#1 Amazing Fantasy#15 ect....ect...have been graded thus far by CGC, perhaps its fairly safe? wouldn't you agree
They've graded millions of dollars worth of books, and will make "right" if something were to happen to your books, so fear not.
However, if you're still unsure, just go with CGG/PGA/PGX grading...i'm sure they're much more reliable

They handle high-caliber books all the time. The part I'd concern myself with is the shipping to CGC. Be as anal and as overprotective as you can be: Sandwich them between cardboard, bubble-wrap, box-within-a-box and more bubble-wrap with loads of insurance usually will protect comics from the most simian of mail-carriers/ couriers. They'll be well packaged and in the cases on the way back. I doubt I've had as many graded as ole Petey, but once you get 'em to CGC, I'd consider them in safe hands.

Yeah I dont think that you should worry about cgc losing your books. If something did happen cgc would make it right.
If you are fearful of shipping your books anywhere then you can try onsite grading or just drop your books off at a show so that you dont have to ship raw books. If you want to get your books graded cgc will do it without you losing any sleep. The real question is why do you want the books graded?

My books got to cgc okay as they cashed my check that was included in the box. I did everything that X-O HoboJoe suggested about being overly anal with my shipping. If I could afford an arm guard I would have sprang for the money. Now all I can do is wait and hope.
It's really tough to do the first time but I suspect it gets increasingly easy the more times you send them your books. But yeah, I know the feeling. Maybe Peter Parker can tell you how his company handles the materials once they receive the package!

Submit through a partner site for a 20% discount. comiclink.com, metropolis.com, etc.djm928 wrote:I would like to send some of my older books to get them CGC graded, but I'm afraid that they would get damaged, lost, etc. by sending them to CGC. I will echo the "the books are safe" if you ship them safely sentiment. I would use REGISTERED and INSURED mail to ship the books you mentioned. Shipping things registered is a bit of a chore, but worth it. Besure to look up the regulations or ask your PO before packing the box.

If you're REALLY concerned, CGC does onsite submission (which I will be doing at WWLA next month) to save you on packing and shipping the books up. They're all over the place, and I was even surprised when they showed up at my local 'small' con here in LA yesterday!
Call up CGC, or e-mail, and they'll give you a local place to drop them off.
Cool, huh?
If I had known....I didn't, but if I had...I would have brought everything to the Shrine and had it back at WWLA.
