Singapore.

It was a time of speculation. The early '90s. There was Wizard magazine adding to the hype, Toddy Mc was creating waves with Spidey. Everything was gold.

Then came along this company called Valiant. I was hungry for something new and saw a new #1 (hey, wasn't everyone buying any and every #1 book. Nth Man or Darkhawk anyone??) - Super Mario Bros #1 by Valiant.

Bought it. Hated it. I was into superhero stuff not kiddy fluff. Put it away.

Some time later, I saw Magnus #1 and passed. Didn't fancy a Gold Key remake.

Then Harbinger came on the scene. Now this was the stuff I liked: Superheroes, angsty teens. Unfortunately, I was only sporadically popping into the LCS (had other interests...well, it was girls mainly) and only started with #3.

I went to every LCS in the country and begged them to pull out any Harby #1 & 2s they had. No luck. The final store I went to had one last copy but they made me pay $40 for it. I did anyway.

No regrets. I soon picked up all the Valiant books. BWS, one of my fave artists came on board for Archer and Armstrong (that is a great buddy book) and it soon became my fave after Harby. I dug through all the bargain bins and picked up multiple copies of Magnus #12 for a song.

Then the speculation hit a new high. I couldn't resist and sold all my key Valiants (Harby #1, Rai #3-4, Magnus #12, Solar #10) to collectors and LCS's for a song and cashed out.

A friend of mine borrowed all the rest of my books and never returned them.

Life went by. I thought about rebuilding the collection in the late '90. Being in Singapore and now Australia, I didn't have access to dealers or stores or cons where boatloads of Valiants were dumped for next to nothing in the late '90s. Paypal wasn't even an option so I couldn't buy from the US without lots of hassles.

Fast forward to 2008.

I'm a little late to the party but I'm starting to rebuild my early key Valiants starting with Harbinger #1-6.

I also want to get some rare Gold issues and stuff such as Unity Red that I never saw because the market back home was too small.

So do help me out with my wants list!

Glad to be back!

Welcome to the bored.

If you have extra copies of Darkhawk 1, I'll take them off your hands.

Welcome AND...I too, had, among my first, if not my first, VC, a SMB comic. VU, is a different matter, but Valiant? Yep, it was a Mario book. I wonder how many others here have a sim story to you?
