It is finished - the Complete Valiant/Acclaim HC Library

Post by Steve Topper »

I got my last seven books in today from Library Binding-- so my Valiant project is officially complete! Every Valiant (VH-1) and Acclaim (VH-2) comics bound in hardcovers and on my shelves. Of course I still have 10 or so dust jackets to make for them, but the binding project is complete.

Here are pictures of my completed Valiant shelves:

Shelf 1
Acclaim Miscellany - H.A.R.D. Corps 2 (with Harbinger: The Beginning)

Image

Shelf 2
Magnus Robot Fighter 1 - Solar Man of the Atom 1

Image

Shelf 3
Solar Man of the Atom 2 - X-O Manowar 4 (along with Solar: Alpha and Omega HC and X-O Manowar: Birth)

Some people spend their whole lives believing in fairy tales, usually because they don't want to give up the fabulous prizes.

Roughly $980 without shipping. That breaks down to about $20/book at 48 books. And that wasn't all at once. It was spread out over about a year and a half.

No, those books never interested me while they were being published. This is my original collection (except for some of the duplicates within the various bindings). I'm also not going to consider the other various imprints either -- Magic the Gathering, Windjammer, etc.

Thanks! My youngest son gave it to me, so Li'l Drac gets to protect my books! :D

Me, too. Except that I'd be more irked if the books were out of alphabetical order (like the Q&W and Ninjaks that I had to rearrange AFTER I took the picture :!: )

Of course, I COULD buy a longer shelf, but that would probably just mess up some other run, so for now it stays until I can shake my alphabetical anal-compulsion

The basic price is $15 for up to 2" of comics (that's roughly 20-25 issues with all covers and ads, etc.) Remove back covers and ads, and you can get more books in.

The basic lettering which is all I used is included in the $15. I add head and tails bands to each book and those are $4.95 extra/book. The head/tail bands add nothing more than an aesthetic element. Here is a picture of the head/tail bands

Image

It just makes the book look finished. That's all. So each of my books cost $19.95 (of course I supplied the comics, so the "real cost" would have to include the comics)

That is super cool. So the tail bands don't reinforce the books at all?

Not according to the binder. When I talked to him, he seemed to be trying to talk me out of the head/tail bands. But, again, I like the look so I pay the extra $4.95

I am going to say, the greatest Valiant/Acclaim collection I've ever seen.

I am at a phase right now where I loathe my comic boxes.
