The Special Gift Toy Drive 2008

Post by Byrneout »

For those of you who are new to the board, or just need a reminder, I have a very personal reasonas to why I perform the Special Gift Toy Drive every year for the Shriners Burns Institute Hospitals.

In the past, we ahve done AMAZING things for the children... just look at what you accomplished in 2007, 2006 and 2005. This year, though, things are looking a little rough - donations are down across the board... but that's where we can come in to turn things around.

I'd like to announce the official beginning of the 2008 Special Gift Toy Drive, our chance to lighten the holidays for those less fortunate than we.

As always, there are a few "big items" that they're trying to acquire - this year, it's "Rock Band 2" and "Guitar Hero: World Tour" for both PS3 and 360. There are many other items we can donate that would help, but focusing on these items at first means that we can have a HUGE impact over the holidays. Also, it's great to receive donations of comics (particularly all ages material - Tiny Titans, Billy Batson and Super Friends comics are huge right now) to give them a taste of the passion we all share.

I've included the target list in a separate post over HERE for those who want to purchase the items directly. If you wish to contribute to a general fund to purchase items, let me know, and I'll send you details. In general, though, if it;'s not a book or video game, it needs to be NEW due to sterilization issues.

We will be collection from NOW through Monday, December 22nd to allow time for delivery to Shriners.

KC has ALREADY dropped 14 BOXES of comics for the drive,a nd is preparing a run of action figures as well... which is an amazing way to start!

THANK YOU ALL in advance for the great work I know we will do this year! This drive would be far, far smaller without the generous support I have found here!

I am backing down a bit on the CF fund raiser because I think that right now Ric's fund raiser should be at the forefront due to the time table. This is an instant on fund raiser where we get to see the results right away and dammit, I just cannot have kids in a hospital during Christmas in pain or not able to enjoy some kind of Christmas when WE as a community can make things better for these kids at least for a little while. I think that right now, we need to make a HUGE push towards Ric's fund raiser... PLEASE help out with this as this has a direct impact on a group of children that need out help during this time of year. Help both physically and spiritually. If one present or playing Guitar Hero/Rock Band for a while can allow a child to forget their pain and make them smile for an hour or two... then this is all worth it.

Isn't is AWESOME to be a part of something like that ? WE can do that, WE have done it every year, but I am asking that we dig in and help Ric out... he is SO deserving of the help because Ric has done incredible things for the CF fund raiser (when I get the check in, I will post a copy of it, and it will make your jaw hit the floor, trust me on this). So, bottom line... lets help Ric and those children out during this holiday season, whatever you can donate, please donate... if we get enough folks to back this up, the end product will be awesome.

Me... I am getting with my family members and I am going to try and make a larger donation than I did last year. I am totally committed to making this a great year for the The Special Gift Toy Drive 2008.

I know it is the holiday season, times are tough but whatever you can do to help... well it all adds up and we REALLY can do a good thing.

Thank you to those that took the time to read my post and to those who have already donated and those that will donate in the future.

Lets make the world a better place !!! At vf.com, that is just the way we roll. :thumb:

Toys/Games on the way!

Time are tough right now, but the kids have it tougher.

I urge everyone t send something. If you can spare a few dollars or even buy a little something, it WILL make a huge impact.

I'll post up some results in the next day or so - I would do so sooner, but my eldest had a hospital stay of his own over the holidays, so I've been a bit distracted.

Overall though, I can't complain - we did very well considering the current economic times, and we got PLENTY of cool things to give to the children this year!
