Anybody going to watch Wrestlemania 21? I usually get together with my brothers and watch it, but this year I'm kind of undecided. I would like to see Stone Cold return and the main event, but I could probably live without seeing the rest.

Nope. The actual story of how I got into Valiants has been saved, and will be relayed at the correct time and in the correct location (the My Valiant Story boards). It will be fraught with intrigue, peril, and excitement beyond compare!

I'll be ordering wrestlemainia fo sho'. I'm going to (Shhhh....) record it on DVD.....(Shhhh......). Anyone watch TNA? I just got their last PPV "Destination X." Weak. The high spots in the X division match were mediocre at best. I think the best part was when Kevin Nash fell down when he tried do do his finisher (Powerbomb) on Billy Gunn (Mr. @$$ as he was known elsewhere).

I'm sorry, truly..but how anyone with a conscience can pay $50.00 for Wrestlemania just leaves me flummoxed

The price of wrestling PPV's are outrageous, but so are those for boxing, as well. I used to get the wrestling PPV's when they were cheaper, but I haven't gotten one in years now.

I have watched TNA, and it pretty much sucks, too much like watered down WCW wrestling. Someone needs to come up with a different wrestling concept for a promotion, something innovative like ECW was back in the day. I used to love going to ECW shows, it was freakin' cool standing right next to the wrestlers as they were kicking the crap out of each other among the chairs in the crowd. The early ECW shows before the WWE and WCW started raiding their talent were some of the best wrestling shows I have ever seen. Say it with me, ECW, ECW, ECW!!!!

Dont you mean EC F'n W? Have you seen The Rise and Fall of ECW? Its really a good, good, good look at some of the things goin on behind ECW. If your lucky, the first wave of DVDs were packed with a beanie or t-shirt, maybe you can still find one.

That's why you get together with a bunch of your buddies and split the cost. Takes a lot of the sting out of it and you have a blast watching it with everyone.

Random thoughts in this topic...

TNA is somewhat hit or miss. Some of their performers are incrediblend are always enjoyable. Team Canada are great to watch, AMW, Elix Skipper, AJ Styles, Raven, Christopher Daniels, etc. are all great performers. Monte Brown and Shark Boy are consistently two of the most entertaining performers on television today. And although I did miss the last TNA PPV, I've yet to see a bad Ultimate X match, which is a rather innovative gimmick.

The World title scene? Yeah, I can see the comments about it being a watered down WCW. As a smaller, starting promotion, they're trying to use the name value of these former WCW stars to help stay afloat. Although I personally would prefer a more ECW style approach, I also realize that ECW didn't make a ton of money, so I can understand why a promoter would choose to go the same route as TNA have. But for crying out loud, why haven't they hired Joey Styles yet?

Wrestlemania being $50? That's steep, but as has been suggested, it can be easier to swallow if you split the cost amongst a group. As a wrestler, I'm somewhat obligated to watch the PPV's, but when I invite several of my friends over, the price quickly drops to $2-$3 a person, and a good time is had by all. Alternatively, you can always go to your local Hooters or sports bar and have a good chance of watching it there.

Joey Styles is a long time announcer from ECW, AJ Styles is the wrestler that is a champion in TNA, so it's a little confusing. Any chance they're related?

Yes, it's a shame Joey Styles is not working with a big promotion, he was fantastic. TNA should snap him up, I'm not a big fan of their current announcers...again, too much like WCW especially since Mike Tenay is one of them.

Things and people I miss from ECW:

1.Sabu
2.Taz actually wrestling instead of being an announcer
3.New Jack and Mustafa, the Gangstas coming out to Dr. Dre's Natural Born Killers, always meant a vicious fight was about to start
4.Real music being used for the wrestler's entrances, not the made up crap WWE uses.
5.Tommy Dreamer vs Raven-this long time feud was one of the most vicious ones in wrestling history.
6.Sandman-he was the original beer drinking, cigarette smoking, *SQUEE* kicker long before Stone Cold stole his beer gimmick
7.Dean Malenko, Chris Benoit and Shane Douglas as the Triple Threat
8.The Eliminators, Saturn and Kronus, they worked like a well oiled machine
9.Beulah McGillicuddy, despite the name, she was smoking hot
10. Public Enemy-Johnny Grunge and Rocco Rock kicked a lot of *SQUEE* before the bigs stole them away.

I limited my list to 10, could have been a lot more....

Wait a second... You mean that you, a proffessional wrestler, get together with your proffesional wrestling buddies (the people you both get paid to have you beat them up), during your free time, to watch other proffesional wrestlers, and it is for fun (ie. not to learn new techniques)?

Not *all* of my friends are professional wrestlers.

And yes, we watch it, and it's mostly to keep up with what's going on (ergo the "somewhat obligated" line in the quote), and not every wrestler I know is an enemy.

We typically have fun mocking *and* learning from the matches we see.

i'm feeling nostalgic for ECW now. man, the Eliminators kicked *SQUEE*. i missed the Gangstas... New Jack's insane dives, throwing up the X arm sign.... Raven and Tommy Dreamer was kick *SQUEE*... Raven and Sandman was also awesome, i was *SQUEE* when Raven got Sandman's son to turn on him... i actually believed that Taz was badass, he choked out everyone including Paul Varleans of UFC fame... and that whole 'Taz fears' stuff with Dr. Death, great stuff... Buelah rocked my world and her partner, Kimona and that striptease

man, from the moment Shane tossed the NWA title on the ground to about '98 when Paul E. went insane and thought Justin Credible was a serious champ, ECW was the best promotion around. the angles and fueds felt so real and intense. and there's more i can go off on.... Louie Spicoli and the Spicoli driver... Terry Funk... Cactus Jack promos... Mikey Whipwreck, the ulitimate loser... all the Dudleys... Prime Time Brian Lee.... Shane breaking Pitbull 1's neck, stealing Francine, attacking Pitbull 1 with a halo on.... Pillman and his shoot on Bischoff.... the bWo... 911 choke-slamming everything from midgets, refs, Santas, anything.

Found a site with wrestling profiles, it has Benoit at 5'11" and Tazz at 5'9". Does two inches mean that much? I don't know. Maybe in wrestling it is...

Chris is 5'11", legit. However, he packs so much muscle on his frame that it makes him look somewhat disproportioned from afar. Up close? You sure as hell wouldn't pick a fight with him. Ever. You automatically move into "yes, sir" mode.

In the WWE world, 6'0" is considered "cruiserweight height". 6'1" (like me) is considered "short", while 6'4" plus is considered "heavyweight". So, in the WWE world, we had a "cruiserweight" Taz who wrestled like a "heavyweight". It was just a clash that didn't work well due to the height perceptions of WWE personnel. Perhaps someday the "cruiserweight" height will nto be a negative - but for now, today, it is.
