A Dead Universe sighting...

Comic universes no longer active, Bravura, Continuity, CrossGen, Future, Malibu, Ultraverse... and others that are 'no longer with us' today (or only recently brought back).

A Dead Universe sighting...

Post by Knightt »

This is from the Ultra-Pro current size bags that I bought from my LCS just last week.

I wonder what the FUTURE will hold for COMICS ?

Hmmmm, I wonder why they would use that image? I really enjoyed Metallix and Freemind wasn't too bad either.

Maybe because they're "real characters" but they're probably "real cheap" to license as compared to Marvel/DC characters?

Could be... AND they look pretty darn sweet. Better than the 'Shi' pic that was on the packages from before. :thumb:

IIRC, they started using the Future characters before the publisher folded. Never actually saw it though.

That makes a little more sense, I was wondering why they would start using characters from a defunct company.

Well it is really cool to see somehting like that pop up.

I cam within one issue of a reader run on future with a recent puck up, then its the premium books to go.

I trade as Dead Universe Comics in the UK, which is no surprise to those who know of my legendary Dead Universe habit.

Ya know, I thought the same thing. I even stared at the bags for a while before it really clicked of it being a DU (Future Comics).

Funny after not being a fan, I thought 'wow, those look very cool', just to have it be Future Comics. But for a good toss, I recently added Future Comics to my DU collection after getting about 8 issues for a buck. I will admit that the books are quality made. :thumb: And hell, Ron Lim art ? Six issues on Metallix was GREAT. He is like one of my favorites and in person ? An incredibly nice guy, it is almost as if he is 'shocked that his work is so popular'. Nice guy

We know Bob Layton has been out to L.A. here recently, I 'assume' as an advisor on the next Iron Man movie, but maybe there is some interest in his Future Comics characters as well ? One can only hope. :hope:

I kinda smack myself for adding Future Comics to my collection... this is one of the harder DUs to complete isnt it ?

Yep. From what I've read here that #7 ashcan book is near-impossible to find!

I was lucky enough to order directly from Mr. Layton, so I managed to score the Deathmask variant, the Peacekeeper ashcan and a second copy of the Freemind Collected Edition. I think you can still buy a copy of the Collected Edition very cheaply from Bob.

I also have the Freemind #0 with the DF logo.

I guess my want list consists of Freemind #8 ashcan, Metallix #7 ashcan and Freemind #4, which I just happen to missing for some reason.

Bob has said there are projects with the Future properties in development in other media for sometime now. Hopefully, he'll have some news about them in his next update.

It depends how far into the DU you want to go. If you just want a copy of each issue printed, it shouldn't be too bad. Especially if you already have 8 of them. It only begins to be an issue if you want all the limited editions and the ashcans too. Most of the regular issues can be bought right from Layton's site.

The only Item I have outside of the comics is a Future Comics sticker (or it could be a window decal).
