New Non-Valiant Painting Commission - Citizen Pain
I'm doing a painting commission for Mike (mjm00014) that I thought I'd share. This will end up being a 16x20 acrylic painting of Citizen Pain from Violent Messiahs on a hand-made canvas panel. I'll post some shots of the work in progress when I start painting next weekend. In the meantime, here's a peek at the preliminary layout I did.

Cliff's a real awesome guy to have do a piece. I haven't seen the finished product yet, but I'm real excited . . . maybe we'll get an update soon.
His pricing is right on point to, I can't tell you how many shows I've been to where some of the artists at the show charge the price of a kidney for some ink =)
If you have some spare change laying around I suggest giving him a ring. I also love the fact he's trying a new character to him

Another Update: WIP (Work-in-Progress)
I'm digging in. The way I'm working on this is a style called wet-in-wet. So I'm doing sections at a time, piling up layers of paint by applying new paint before the last layers are dry. Since I work in acrylics, I can always go back and add highlights later, after its dry which I'll likely do right at the end, Once I have the whole canvas covered with paint.
Each time I take a break, I'll photo it and post the "wip". Over the next couple of days I'm hoping to finish it.

There are some color subtleties that don't show well. I'm actually using black (ivory black) on black (mars black) in some places. The ivory black is a little more reflective, so when I shoot it it shows up strangely The front of the face and down the arm are good examples.

The inked layout is part of the deal with the client, so he gets it all.slym2none wrote:And I bet you could sell a few prints of just the B&W inks.-slym

Since I know that with my style of painting preliminary stages often don't reveal much about the finished product, I'll take that as a compliment (I think).slym2none wrote:Nicer than I thought it would come out...

This was a lot of fun. Its actually only my third character piece (X-O, Magnus and now Citizen Pain) and I'm refining my painting style with each new endeavor. I've started a large wildlife piece (I have a gallery show coming up), but I'll definitely be revisiting the Valiant universe with a new painting before long. Maybe Rai up next, though I'm also considering a sexy Tekla painting.
