And is singlehandedly responsible for the recent spike in the census of these books.

I doubt it would drop that low that quickly since people like to protect their investments. Possibly in the 700 - 800 range, I could see easily (provided nothing new from VEI). If copies keep changing hands often, the investment protection bidding will slow.
You may be right. I wasn't factoring the folks that will bid to protect their investments. Either way, it will be a losing gamble for them as I can only see the value shrinking as more copies come out of the wood works. I'll say maybe in two years it will reach the $500-600 point and continue to depreciate as time goes. So far, the book has dropped from $2500 from last year to its current average sales of $1300 - $1400.
This analysis is relevant if we assume the demand stays the same or decreases. The census numbers are still much too small to absorb any sort of spike in demand.

I do not think, barring some major discovery or change in CGC grading practices, that we will ever see more than 2-3 hundred 9.8s on the census. Even this number is low for a major key and a book considered a top example of era and genre. I'd expect a falling price to increase demand as it becomes more affordable - where it wil level off I will not guess.
