Value??

Post by Valiant21 »

Back for some info from everyone - related to Valiant. Some months back, I was at a garage sale and came across a stack of comics. Nothing I really wanted, but there was an old Gold Key Dr. Solar. At the time I really didn't know much about it except that it was the precursor to the Valiant version. I gave the guy his .50 cents and a couple of days later after visiting this site realized it was the first issue!! I have an older Overstreet Price guide and in NM it's listed at $250. The one I have has a small chip at the top and a date stamp on the cover, a distributor stamp on the first page, & a corner crease, but otherwise is complete, even the staples are clean! Because of the stamp, according to Overstreet, it is a VG. Does anyone have a current Overstreet guide and does it list a VG value? I seem to remember reading somewhere that they were going to add that.

Also, for those that have never read this issue, it has 16 more pages than Valiant's Original Dr. Solar reprint, which includes #5 which first shows Solar's costume. Gold Key's issue #1 doesn't have him in his costume at all!

Last years Overstreet lists Doctor Solar #1 in VG as $42. Hope that helps, although I'm sure you could pick it up cheaper on Ebay (cheaper than overstreet, not cheaper than fifty cents)

Date Stamps don't necessarily mean the book is automatically a VG. CGC doesn't downgrade that much for date stamps, especially for pedigrees. (The date stamp is actually one of the main things that could define a pedigree.)

Thanks for the info - I was just curious about the value since it was such an old issue - 1962 I believe.

Conan#24 CGC NM+ 9.6? that's about a $300.00 book! Do you honestly have that much in your electric company piggy bank dude :?:

Stick to more realistic thoughts, those .50 cent bins are made for ya
