I love collecting Atlas as well... it is but a smere in the comic book history (IMO) but they made a pretty good attempt. The one thing that always stuck with me all these years (as I owned quite a few of these as boy) was the advertisements. I was sent a small stack of someone's roughed up set and I thought, 'ok these are cool' but when I saw those advertisement pages again, a serious case of melancholy came over me and it was just nice to see. It is great for me as comics take me back to a time when I had no responsibility, health problems, worry about if my contract is going to be renewed every year that I work etc etc etc.

Anyone remember waking up on a Saturday morning with NOTHING to do ? I would get up, have breakfast, watch some cartoons in the morning, then have lunch real quick because I wanted to go ride my BIKE, coming back around 2 pm, catch the end of a Saturday horror movie, then bust out my comics and read Amazing Spider-Man #158 for the 427th time and peruse through other titles that caught my eye. Good times.

The story of Atlas Comics is outlined in my post here:

viewtopic.php?t=8014

And 'where I got it from' plus other GREAT bits of knowledge can be found on this site:

http://www.atlasarchives.com/magazines.html

A pretty rich story if you ask me. I find it very difficult to find really nice copies of Atlas books. Oddly enough, one of my two copies of Vicki is in VERY great shape. The other is a bit beat up but still a looker.

I was pulling all Atlas books off the stands when they were coming out. I was a kid, and had really high hopes for the line. I thought it was something special and was crushed when the company folded.

Okay, now we're talking! Here's one of my favorites from DEFIANT...
Image
And, of course I feel obligated to say that the original is not three feet away from me as I type this...

J.G. Jones, then as now, rocks.

A few more of my Transformers and Transformers: Generation 2 covers:

The Transformers #24-This one is where Optimus Prime dies (for the first time) after winning a video game because he killed some video game characters. This has to be one of the lamest comic book deaths of all time also given the fact that back up disc of Prime's mind was made which set up his eventual return.

Image

The Transformers #25-Megatron dies (for the first time also) in this issue.

Image

The Transformers #42-Optimus Prime returns as a Powermaster! This is my favorite verison of G1/G2 Opitmus Prime.

Image

The Transformers #50-Starscream damn kills everybody in this issue before dying (a second time) himself to make room for new characters coming.

Image

The Transformers #53 This is Jim Lee's second cover for the series and speaks for itself.

Image

The Transformers: Generation 2 #1-The Transformers return in this dark and violent follow up to the orginal series.

Image

The Transformers: Generation 2 #5-Megatron's homage to Hamlet is one of those covers that you don't just forget.

Image

The Transformers: Generation 2 #12-The final issue of the Marvel US/UK Transformers Universe has Optimus Prime dying (again) and coming back to life (again).

Had this as a kid, I LOVE how lame this death is. Although its the first time you'll ever pick up a comic where a virtual reality scene actually has some meaning to the characters!

Never read this. How did he go down???

Never read this either but it sounds awesome! I love Starscream, if I want to track this down do I need to get many issues before it???

Was anyone aware that Don Perlin has drawn quite a few Transformer books in his career ?

It's true.

In fact, to this day he gets quite a few commission request for a Transformer piece.

He did about 12-15 issues of the Marvel series. I'll dig through my Titan TPBs to get the exact numbers when I'm feeling better.

Like this one he did for IDW's Transformers: Spotlight-Optimus Prime one-shot?

Megatron thinks that Optimus Prime is after him and Shockwave sends for the Predacons (a group of Decepticons that transform into wild animals and they can combine into Predaking) and they trick Megatron into thinking that they're Autobots and they attack Megatron. Megatron shoots Predaking in the face and that brings him down, Soundwave examines Predaking and learns that Shockwave ordered them to take Megatron down. Shockwave confesses and tells Megatron that he was trying to save the Decepticons and Megatron flips out and steps on the Space Bridge (the interplanetary bridge between Earth and Cybertron) and in a fit of madness thinking Optimus Prime is behind it and injured during the fight with the Preadacons, he blows up the bridge and himself with it. Soundwave congratulates Shockwave for destroying Megatron in which Shockwave points that he didn't destroy Megatron a memory did.

Pretty much just read all 49 previous issues of Transformers and Transformers: Headmasters #1-4 to get the whole story.

The Marvel UK Transformers series had some really cool covers, and some really stupid covers, and some really funny covers. They're not easy to find, maybe Draco or some the UK posters here might have some.
