Fantastic Four and Hulk - What to keep?
Working through my Marvel boxes to thin out my collection. Is there anything really standout to keep:
Fantastic Four - the long run - I've got issues from 120s and up. Any stand out Byrne issues? I love a good Doom story too...... I liked this series once, but it got too techy for my taste.
I'm probably getting rid of everything FF aside from the Grant Morrison mini 1234.
Hulk - Probably going to keep the Toddy M. issues..... I don't think I really want to keep the Peter David run. Anything really standout-ish? The Hulk stuff I like is the really personal stuff...... not the Hulk Smash stuff at all.

Thinking I might after all to re-read it once at least. I usually like his stuff.Cyberstrike wrote:I would keep all of the Peter David's run on The Incredible Hulk. There is a LOT great stories in that run.
Guess I'll just look at the covers and try and find the Doom FF issues that Byrne wrote maybe.BloodOfHeroes wrote:I'd say all of the Hulk and any FF Doom tales.

Werd. I was considering keeping the whole Waid Weringo run, but you might've convinced me not to. Anyone like that run? I think that run was why I kept up FF.Dr. Solar wrote:Get rid of it all! Liberate yourself! You are not your comic collection!

Yeah, I think the only true key in all of FF is #48. Probably the only key in Hulk is 181. The rest aren't keys so much as little pimples on the butt of the comic industry.xodacia81 wrote:Keep the "key" issues. First appearances, first time an artist/writer appeared, story shifts, ect. Keep anything from the 60's. Period. Keep that which you truly LOVE. Liberate yourself from the rest.
I've got some SA issues to get rid of eventually too, but no 48. The lowest FF I have is a pretty sweet #10 and another ragged out #10.

I totally agree w/ this quote, get rid of everything else!! Free your self from your comics.maraxusofkeld wrote:If you'd be purging to buy a bigger grail book that you wanted for a long time, I would sell them all. If you are selling to just get rid of some books, keep the Byrne FF run and the Mcfarlene Hulks.

Good golly. You probably won't take my advice judging by your comments, but I would DEFINITELY keep Byrne's FF run. Also, the Galactus/Sphinx storyarc and Walt Simonson's cool run.400yrs wrote:Working through my Marvel boxes to thin out my collection. Is there anything really standout to keep:

As for the Hulk, I don't like anything Hulk related except for PAD's run. It's absolutely brilliant and wouldn't get rid of it at all. Future Imperfect is really awesome too.

Weringo's art was cool as usual, but I didn't really care for Waid's writing.400yrs wrote:Werd. I was considering keeping the whole Waid Weringo run, but you might've convinced me not to. Re: Fantastic Four and Hulk - What to keep?
Yeah, I just picked out a few issues to keep from the original FF and then the whole Waid / Weringo run. Hulk - I just kept a few MacFarlane issues and all the Keown / David issues that I had.Lightning Strike wrote: Good golly. In the end, all of this stuff will probably go. I've gone through most of my Marvel stuff up to "U" and have only pulled about 5 short boxes. I've still got a ton of X-men and Wolverine stuff to get rid of, but I'm not where I want to be yet.

Well, I went through my Marvels and pulled about 8 short boxes of stuff. Lots of X-men, Wolvies, Thor, Capt Marvel, FF, Hulk, etc.
Now I've got 10 long boxes of stuff to get rid of somehow. Guess I'm going to go the ebay route for long runs and mycomicshop.com and milehigh for the single issues.
I still need to trim out another 13 shorts to get to my goal of 60 shorts, but this is a start for now at least. In the end, I think I'll be able to get rid of 5 or so Valiant boxes, a few DCs and a bunch more Marvels and an Image box or two once I move some of my Invincible and Proof extras.
