Comic Collecting Goals?

Post by Escaflown4 »

I'm just curious about the overall collecting habits of what folks here are currently concentrated on. What goals are you guys trying to obtain?

For me, I am aiming to finish off my Amazing Spider-Man run which I am missing about 15 issues. On the side, I am also on the look out for nice presentable and affordable slabbed Marvel Silver Age major key books. My final goal is to have a collection of all the introduction of the big name Marvel characters. My inspiration to do this? I blame it on the Marvel series I cards that I collected as a kid back in 1990, which also dragged me into this hobby. :P

Same here. As far as stuff to read, there's no real rhyme or reason to what I buy. For a while my goals were to complete a full run of Silver Surfer (1987 series) and Flash (1987 series also), but now that those are done my goals are to collect every Flash, Superman, Action Comics and DC Comics Presents from 1977 to Crisis on Infinite Earths and every single superhero Marvel Comic from 1990-1996.

Tick
TMNT (except for the Archie series)

Christian Comics

and anything by Sam Kieth or Ted McKeever

Here are my goals, in no particular order
  • -Finish valiant 1 (about 20ish random books left i think)
  • Uncanny X-Men - just recently started this, I only need 80ish or so from 175-current. Then the easy part, 1-175 (minus a few in the 150s)
  • Invincible and Walking Dead at cover or lower
  • Impact's Black Hood
  • Little more than halfway done with Ultimate X-Men, just picking them up in super cheap bins now.

I want to read great stories.

I really enjoy the medium. I also like the hunt looking for cheap books to fill runs I am looking for.

My collecting goals are to have my collection only contain as follows:

- VH1 Valiant Reading Set (2 issues short of the standard run!!!! WOO HOO!!!)

- Defiant reading set (complete!)

- Complete New Warriors (& related books) set (still need a bunch of Night Thrasher and Nova books)

- Complete Neil Gaiman's Sandman set (already have it!)

- Various mini-series and short-runs here and there (currently, hoping to finish Mike Grell's "Shaman's Tears" run from Image)

- Purchase new Dark Horse/Gold Key books starting next month (WOO HOO!)

I'm trying to sell everything else I have to make room for the "new" :)

I've got far too many going at the same time.

Series to complete:

- Y Last Man (about 10 issues)

- Swamp Thing (the long Moore started series) noway near finishing this.

- Valiant - only really end of run books now so not a priority

- Crossgen - Probably 100-150 regular books.

- Flash v1 105 to end... The Barry Allen era

- Flash v2 all... Definitely going better than my v1 at the moment.

- Batman 200 to present... another massive ongoing one ala Flash v1.

Finish off ASM (still only one issue)

Work on DD (about 25 issues) but only if they are cheap / reasonable

trim the collection down to 50 short boxes

My other goal is to sell as much stuff as I can and not feel like I'm getting raped when I do it.

Once I do feel a little more comfortable being able to spend money on comics, I intend to get back to the local Philly show and root through the cheap boxes for good books. I was thinking about going to the big show here in Philly this weekend, but it really doesn't make any sense to spend $25 to get in just to buy bargain books, which is my main interest at any show.

Whoa, I haven't gone to a big show for quite some time, but $25 admission fee is a bit steep!

My collecting goals are listed without priority in the Dead Universe section.

There are a bunch of DUs I want to complete and a few characters who I want to have full runs of theirs, like Nexus and Grendel.

My goal is to find and read great comic stories. Also, when I can find these comics in collected editions (specifically oversized editions) I buy them and put them on my bookshelf. Lastly, I try to get these collected editions signed by the writer. I currently have all of the Proof trades signed by Alex Grecian and all of the Scapled Trades signed by Jason Aaron.

Also, I am looking to complete runs of the following comic series (don't really care about collecting books after 1994):

X-Factor
New Mutants
Uncanny X-men
X-Men
DareDevil
Incredible Hulk
ASM
Old Batman and & Detective Comics

#3. Yeah, all the regular issues, but not annuals and all the variants. One future goal (way future) is to upgrade some of them. For instance, my #6 is a rag.

That is AWESOME, 400yrs! To have all those books has got to be an absolute joy! Do you have Amazing Fantasy #15 as well?

Nah. Wish I did, but at this point, I probably won't since it costs so much now.

In general I like SA and BA DC and continue to expand my vintage runs. I continue to buy Batman and Detective and with no plans on stopping. I’m four issues short of the original Swamp Thing run but I need the House of House of Secrets #92. Also I’m working on the Neal Adams Dead Man Strange Adventures run—I only have two issues. From there anything Kirby did for DC.

I saw something about possible new Nexus books in the works? Or was I dreaming it? Lol...

That would be cool to see some new Nexus material, though :)
