Major promotion from Image wasn’t exactly backed by confident ordering from retailers. So this was quite likely to happen. Lots of people want the school superfiction comic. Not enough people have them for sale.
As Image already race to get a second print out, copies of the first print are already selling from $11 to $15 on eBay. And as people snap up all the Buy It Now at $3.99 offerings from unaware sellers, expect the availability to reduce and the scalping to increase.
As soon as I saw this post I called a friend of mine who owns a couple stores here in Phoenix and told him about this book. While we were on the phone he said "nice, I just pulled 3 copies of it off my stands. Thanks!"iggy101us wrote:http://www.bleedingcool.com/2010/08/20/ ... rom-image/maraxusofkeld wrote:Morning Glories from Image seems to be picking up steam.

Thanks, maraxusofkeld and Iggy.

I'm sure they print at least as many as are ordered, and may not know which issues to overprint, and certainly don't know how many to overprint by if it's a brand new series.maraxusofkeld wrote:I do think it is getting kind of silly with Image, a book is purposely short print to create hype. Exactly. Was Orc Stain under printed? That seems easy enough to get. Or Bulletproof Coffin?StarBrand wrote:I'm sure they print at least as many as are ordered, and may not know which issues to overprint, and certainly don't know how many to overprint by if it's a brand new series.maraxusofkeld wrote:I do think it is getting kind of silly with Image, a book is purposely short print to create hype. I can only think of a few image books from the last few years that low initial print run has led to a major shortage of, and that is essentially Walking Dead, Invincible, and Chew.
The print run of Morning Glories seems to have met the demand on the day it came out. It just didn't meet the demand the day after it came out.
I imagine that a policy of over-printing comics doesn't make financial sense for most publishers.
That said, I hope it goes up. I bought 3 copies. 1 the day it came out, and 2 more a couple days later when I found out it was selling out

What is the hottest comic right now? I've read that early issues of Chew are pretty hard to find and are worth some money.
Are Marvel books still considered hot and hard to come by? The last one I remember having a hard time with was the Captain America 25, which was worth like $100 for a hot minute, and then the Barack Obama cover on Spider-Man (which was also worth $100 for a hot minute).
Nowadays I'll have nothing to do with hot comics that sell out quickly. I can't stand collecting something that I have to "beat" someone else to get.

Yep. Except for the biggest of books, publishers aren't going to over print comics nowadays.Dr. Solar wrote: Exactly. Was Orc Stain under printed? That seems easy enough to get. Or Bulletproof Coffin?

Fairly recently, Image changed their process for when they send orders to print. Instead of the 3 months out, retailer can adjust their orders on Image books I think up to 2 weeks or so before release.
Image isn't underprinting anything on purpose. If retailers ordered more from Diamond, Image definitely would've printed and sold to them. At Image, it's all on the creators. They aren't going to underprint because that means fans who would've paid aren't able to pay for, get and read the book.
I'm sure if they could, they'd probably prefer to do one massive printing instead of going to 4 printings like they did with the first few issues of Chew. You'd get a better quantity discount at the printer.
I can tell you exactly what happened with Chew and what I suspect may have happened with Morning Glories.
If Millar does Wanted or Ellis does Fell or whatever, people are going to know about it because of the big names and it's going to be ordered heavily at the retailer level. Chew was a book that flew under the radar before it started because the creators aren't big names.
Before Chew came out, more than half of the book was previewed in many different ways. The 5 first pages were previewed on a big comic website and the Image site. Then another 10 pages at another site. Finally, the first bunch of pages were previewed in the back of TWD 61.
So before it came out, you could read more than half of the first issue. And from the previewed pages, it was obvious that it had some serious potential and was a completely fresh idea. I was seriously waiting for this book to come out to read it. And it didn't disappoint. However, I didn't think as many other people would care about it, but they did. So the 6K copies they printed flew, word of mouth spread, etc.
The same thing probably happened with Morning Glories. 20-22 pages were put up in different places on the internet. Honestly, it didn't strike me quite like Chew did (which is why I'm still skeptical of the book's potential), but it did look interesting. The low level names of the creators means that this book wasn't going to be over-printed or over ordered at the retailer level. Plus, it's a Shadow-Line book which always has miniscule print runs.
We'll see if anything happens with it. I'm still skeptical, but then again, I was with Chew as well. Chew has 13 strong issues out though. Morning Glories just one.

I got one of these. It is going up tonight.400yrs wrote:Sea Bear and Grizzly Shark appears to be flippable.
Despite my love for Ottley and even Howard, I passed on this even with the dcbs huge discount. Apparently it got some good reviews and was funny. It went to a second printing. I'll pick a copy up one day in a bargain bin.
Some guy name Elveen just sold a Darkwing Duck 2A for 16.99 on eBay. You cannot escape the Watchful Eye Of StarBrand! (The Watchful Eye Of StarBrand is similar to the All-Seeing Eye Of Agamotto, pictured below.)

The new Batman Beyond mini issue 1 isn't on eBay uk at cover despite only coming out in the last month and was sold out in the recent Forbidden Planet. Not sure if it was as popular in the US?
Those suicide squad issues look great. Thats a series I'm gunna go for once I finish Swamp Thing and Y last man.

Suicide Squad #23 is supposed to be the 1st appearance of Oracle from the Birds of Prey series. Not worth a lot just yet, but some eBay sellers have broken it out. I know Jesse (h-comics) was looking for these issues a while back, so he knew what was up!
