Uhh...so I go w/ Unity 0 red.
Here's my rant:
Yeah--it's a gimick cover, but come on, folks! Unity 0 got me (and the comic-reading populace at large) reading Valiants, & was a much better story.
Harbinger? C'mon people, it's been done. MEh! Mediocre New Mutants rip-off. Only interesting storyline was when they killed Torque. And maybe # 25 w/ the Pete-Harada show-down.
Seriously, Harbinger was by far the least original of the 8 original Valiant titles.
Compare: kids get superpowers & deal w/ teen angst.
w/:
scientist becomes a god and can't handle the psychic pressure, let alone his love-life
Jazz sax player gets bitten by a vampire & becomes heir to voodoo vigilante compulsion at night
Visigoth barbarian given sentient suit of armor & transported to modern day
Chosen samurai guardian of 4001 Japan where the masses are largely vegetables because they're hooked on TV/drugs
Human marital artist trained to fight renegade robots in 4001 (pre-the Matrix)
Immortal brother fights crime throughout time (yeah--derivative of Highlander but made for damn interesting stories)
The hi-jinks of an alcoholic & lecherous immortal brother teamed with a sheltered Buddhist-style youth
Hell, even Bloodshot & Hard CORPS were more original than Harbinger (I was actually more surprised/moved by Maniac's death than Torque's).

Yeah but what if Harada was bald and in a wheelchair... what would you say then!Rai-fan wrote:Uhh...so I go w/ Unity 0 red.

I went with the Unity 0 Red because I just think the cover is a statement about the whole Valiant Universe at the time. It was just so cool to 1st see.
Don't get me wrong I really like the Harbinger 1 also but, the red just edges it out in my opinion.
Also the Red might have an appeal for me because, while I've got the Harbinger, I don't have the Red. Probably won't get one for the price their selling for now either. I can't justify it since I've got the story in blue. In addition, since the prices are starting to go up on all the early, late, and specials, I've decided to not make an attempt to go for the 100%. I'll keep an eye out for bargains, but I feel their getting fewer all the time.

Your right! That's why I picked Unity Red since it had great art and orginal (fantastic) story. Harbinger #1 was just a reprinted gimmicky cover. (I believe you can check out Uncanny X-Men #1 for Harbinger's first apperance).Lynndale wrote:It's a shame I only get to these boards once in a while, but this thread makes me want to cry. Big bucks and reprinted gimmick covers do not trump original art and (fantastic) story.

Please Harbinger 1 SUCKS...that has to be one of the lamest covers valiant ever did...a flying car in front of an explosion...so lame...and the story is just a rip off..
Boo hoo no one understands me and I have these weird powers...boo hoo...Nothing orginal about that what so ever..

Actually, Whett, it's "you're" as in "you are,"whetteon wrote:Your right! That's why I picked Unity Red since it had great art and orginal (fantastic) story. Example: "You're right!"
not "your" as in "it belongs to you/possessive,"
Example: "Your Unity RED is a reprint gimmick."

red is not a reprint...it was released on the same date as blue and sent only to specific comic shops based on certain criteria.
If you chose to call it a gimmick, I suppose that is your perogative, but then Harbinger 1-6 and Magnus 1-8 are gimmicks as well, what with cards, coupons and flip books and all...
Why waste time learning, when ignorance is instantaneous?
