Mag 0 has a notorious top right corner chip that most books suffer from as well as some very minor spine stresses on most copies. Also the back of the book has a black cover which usually also shares in a few of those minor color breaking stress marks.

If your copy has PERFECT corners and no spine stress then it looks like you should thouroughly examine the covers for dimples or other imperfections and finally make sure all the internal pages look sweet. Even then who knows, you prolly will still only get a 9.8. But who knows... only CGC! :hope:

SOTU is right, all pre-Unity books have some sort of printing defect that prevents grading 9.9 or higher. I had a copy of Unity Red #0 that is practically perfect in all grading aspects. CGC still gave it a 9.8 for some reason. The only pre-unity book I've heard that got a 9.9 was a Solar #10, which I still haven't seen pictures of. Other then that, it seems like you will have a much higher chance of winning the lottery compared to getting a 9.9 or higher on Pre-Unity books.

i will check the top right corner more closely.
and look more closely for dimples and such.
there is zero spine stress on these books
and that is the first thing i look for when grading a book.
next is corners and then the cover and back cover.

On the spine, don't just look for spine stress, look for any color break as well.

You got some damn fine grades there man! I'd call CGC and ask for the graders notes on the 9.4s that you're wondering why they weren't higher. They'll be able to tell you what was wrong with the book. Usually, it's something you could easily overlook such as a non-colorbreaking crease on a back cover corner or a corner that's been bent and doesnt' quite lie flat.

Yeah I suggested that, but i am not sure that they keep grader's notes on NM moderns..

I think the CGC policy is grader's notes are kept for 9.4 and below on Moderns. They don't keep track of why your 9.6 wasn't higher though....

They do NOT keep grader notes for 9.4 or higher modern age books. I know as I tried to get an answer on a rai #1 9.4 and they told me this (aka go fly a kite)
