CGC graded.......but looks !!!!!!!

Why is this guy listing his CGC book as this.....CGC was supposed to stop *SQUEE* like this from happening in auctions. If it's graded a 7.0 it's that period NOT but "looks 8.0" *SQUEE* that.

Although CGC is a professional grader, it does not mean that everyone has to agree with him. Does it look 8.0? Maybe to the seller, but it could look 6.0 to the buyer. I tend to overlook comments like the seller has made, unless he is specific in what he means. Those comments will generally never have an upward effect on the price I'm willing to pay.

From the scans it doesn't look like an 8.0 :P

The beauty, of course, is now this guy cannot sit there and call it an 8.0. ;)

By the way...not that this condones this guy, but.....sometimes books CAN look really stunning, but have some interior problems that knock it down. :)

Yes, TECHNICALLY that means it doesn't 'look' 8.0 either, but...he's justifying it with only the front cover.

And...not to throw a wet blanket on yer rant, cause ya know I got yer back, but....sometimes, things ARE re-submitted and DO get higher grades. ;)

Until he breaks it out of the slab. Then that would be ok to call it an 8.0 without ever saying it was slabbed at 7.0, right?

Abso-freakin-lutely.

Cause, again, we're back to it being HIS opinion on a RAW book. His opinion could be WRONG...but we're within the 'half grade tolerance' with regards to grading that I harp on so much.

But I kinda doubt someone who's paid $79 -20% to get this baby graded is going to break it out of the slab. ;)

The difference in PRICE between a raw 8.0 and a slabbed 7.0 wouldn't justify doing that AND losing the cost to grade. ;) Let's just say "net loss". :)

What if he said, "It looks like an 8.1 to me"? :P

I get what you are saying, I still don't like it much though. Yeah, it IS raw, but WASN'T raw before. The half a grade concept, I like but I still like knowing a book's history when possible. :thumb:

Wouldn't we all?

The point, though, is that it would be raw NOW...and would have to be treated as such, regardless of its history.

Like I said, I stand by my Amazing #34 example. Graded 6.5 by CGC, but looked much, much better in the case. Busted it outta the case, big ol' light grease stain on the cover. Described it as a QUALIFIED VF/NM, CLEARLY and UNEQUIVOCALLY described the flaw, and VOILA! Got double what I paid for it, without a second thought.

And that's not an 8.1.

It's definitely a 7.775.

;)
