As much as I love Rubber Soul and Revolver, I'm a bigger fan of Sgt Peppers. The others are more likely to get played for casual listening, but I sit down and pay attention for SP. Also, for the audiophiles, I stick to the mono versions on vinyl. Not Parlaphone mono, just Capital. I've got to have money left for Valiants.

I like SP - but not as much as the mid-stuff. Every time I hear SP, I feel like it's working at it - it's good, but...

For a comparison, try out the Beach Boys Smile - not Smiley Smile... SMiLE.

It was the notorious unfinished album for 37 years.

Brian finished it on his own, and it's pretty darned good. His voice has aged, assuredly - but it's fascinating.

THEN read some of the multitude of ways to re-assemble and broil your own SMiLE - much of which has been released in a variety of forms and forums - most notably the Beach Boys box set. Pay particular attention to Our Prayer - almost no catching its purity.

If not that, try out Pet Sounds.

Paul McCartney still lists it as his all-time favorite album - beyond any Beatles stuff - and that makes it worth the listen.

This isn't the car/beach/race Beach Boys. This is great stuff. I don't get much of it, but know there's something in it to be reckoned wit.

I love Pet Sounds as well - again, Capital mono vinyl. I keep meaning to listen to SMiLE, and now I will check out the sites you mentioned.
