Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
I'm not sure it's the same book, but I recently turned down a H1 9.8 with staples I didn't like for less money.dwald385 wrote:Hi, first time posting. I just bought the Harbinger 1 cgc 9.8 for $509.00 on ebay. It has 3 staples and you can see them apposed them being directly on the spine. I called CGC and they said printing defects were common with early valiants and if cgc gives it a 9.8 then it is a 9.8 I am a picky collector and I guess it is bothering me a bit but not sure I could get another one at that price. I was wondering if anyone has an opinion about the matter!!! Thank you very much!!!
There's a saying over at the CGC boards, "buy the book, not the label".
What CGC told you was, of course, correct. They give leeway to printing defects in 9.8. They are taken more into account for the two grades above 9.8 for moderns.
If you are thinking about keeping it because you will have to spend more to replace it, that is likely true. But you could pick one that wasn't bothering you.

Contact the seller. I doubt they will do anything because that's the reason for deailing in CGC books - you know the grade you are getting. But maybe if you pay for the shipping and maybe take a small loss for his time, maybe they will take the book back.
What you describe is the reason that I don't bother with modern high grades in CGC. There are printing defects that show up often. When I get a 9.8 book with bindery tears on the corners, it drives me nuts. If I was selling that book raw, I'd list it as a 9.8 with bindery tears (printing problems do not affect the grade).
Going forward, request big scans and pics and look them over well. I've bought only one 9.8 book for decent money fairly recently - an Invincible 1 9.8. Before I bought it, I made sure to ask the seller if the book had any printing defects, and specifically mentioned bindery tears. He indicated that there weren't. I got it and couldn't be happier. It's a shame that I had to do that, but it is what it is.

Welcome to the board. The seller bought this copy back in June http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0675240892" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; for $449. Factoring in fees of roughly 15%, he lost a little bit of money.dwald385 wrote:Hi, first time posting. I just bought the Harbinger 1 cgc 9.8 for $509.00 on ebay. Highest price to beat is $2550 in 2008. Will it happen?
Hit $2,550 again? I doubt that will happen within the next 5 years.
Demolitioncomics listed another auction - $500 min bid with $800 BIN: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HARBINGER-1-CGC ... 2c5ec63c89" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
Hi, I bought the demolistion copy. I was very upset with the copy I bought with the staples on the front so I fugured I should get a copy I would be happy with. I will put up my copy on e-bay with a very clear discription of the staples and hope to make my money back I guess I will see!
Also anyone have an archer and armstrong 0 gold cgc 9.8 or an eternal flat cgc 9.8? I need those two to complete my colection!!
Thank you again to anyone who answered my post!

Congrats on the grab and good luck with the sale. A&A gold and EW gold flat are very hard to find. I've seen the A&A gold come up for sale a few times and the price is pretty high. I don't think I've seen the EW flat come up for sale. They're also on my want list.dwald385 wrote:Hi, I bought the demolistion copy. Not to distract from the topic Iggy, but what is a fair price for a NM(non CGC) EW #1 gold flat or A&A #0 gold in your opinion?

I don't know since they show up so infrequently and there are so few in the population. I think because of their rarity, sellers probably want top dollars like $300-$400 (or more). And I don't blame them since they are in a position of power.FormerReader wrote:iggy101us wrote: Congrats on the grab and good luck with the sale. A&A gold and EW gold flat are very hard to find. For me, I would pay something less than that.

$300-$400 for a NON-slabbed copy?

Here's one that was advertised as VF and ended for over $70, I'm thinking of selling mine for that kind of money:

Unless I'm incorrect I think Iggy meant $300-$400 for a slabbed copy. $300 to $400 only makes sense for CGC 9.8.FormerReader wrote:Unless I'm incorrect I think Iggy meant $300-$400 for a slabbed copy. Half or less for CGC 9.6.
Until recently, raw "near mint" was usually around $25.
Re: Harbinger #1 CGC 9.8s on eBay (past and current auctions
What Greg said. I was looking through my messages from Iggy to find where he had answered this question for me last week. Basically said stick to Greg's guide. I ended up paying a little over guide for a lot with both EW golds and an AA gold, but I'm impatient.
This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.

Regarding the EW flat and A&A gold . . . yes, I meant CGC 9.8.

Yeah, I know that, but your original question was how much for a non-CGC copy, which I guess Iggy missed when he gave his answer.
