Discuss Your Comic Purchases
I just purchased a few books from mycomicshop via eBay. I bought the following books. They were all listed as VF or NM, most being NM, and all were 1.10 except two that were a bit more. I decided to buy runs of 4 to start out, as that should be enough issues to decide if I'll continue. I'm pretty sure I'll continue buying runs of all these titles beginning where I started, with the jury being out on Guardians Of The Galaxy more than any of them.
So, all 16 books cost 23.85 including shipping, slightly under 1.50 per book. I may stick with doing purchases like this mostly over new books, as I know what I'm getting, and I like Marvel back then more than I like them now.
Captain America 307-310 (Begin Gruenwald's lengthy run)
Fantastic Four 376-379 (Just seemed like a good place to start)
Guardians Of The Galaxy 1-4 (1990 series)
Quasar 1-4 (1989 series)

I may have alot of that Marvel 90s stuff similar to what you bought. In fact, I may have listed it long ago in a sales thread here. I'd certainly do better than that price shipped. If there are certain runs that interest you, shoot me a list.

Nice. If you can get books like that at cover, you need to go to a few more stores. Cool books.400yrs wrote:Latest purchases I've made:

Re: Discuss Your Comic Purchases
I got into collecting more Hellboy books recently. I just picked up Hellboy the Fury #1 and the latest Spawn today. I'll dig out my old early Hellboy mini-series too and cover appearances I knew I collected years back.
I think I want to get the whole universe of books now (BPRD, Lobster Johnson, Witchfinder, Abe Sapien)

Re: Discuss Your Comic Purchases
I'll second the endorsement for Doorman's Atomic Avenue store - bought quite a few Defiant, Broadway and Acclaim books from him. The other sellers on the site have been hit or miss, but nothing but positive things to say about Doorman.
This post has been carefully constructed so as to add absolutely nothing to any discussion or topic.

Re: Discuss Your Comic Purchases
I stopped by Hastings yesterday. It seems like the ones around here that carry comics never have any good comics but the last few times I have been by, they have had a lot of interesting used trades for around the cover price of a new comic. I picked up some stuff that I would not normally pick up yesterday just because it was so crazy cheap.
The big three books I picked up were:
The Essential Silver Surfer v1 $2.99
Essential Thor v1 $2.99
Showcase Presents Superman 1 $1.99
I also picked up a handful of other trades:
Tom Judge: the Rapture (Top Cow) v1 $3.99
Judgement Day $3.49 (the one from Awesome Comics, Moore writing Liefeld)
Revved $1.99 (some Image book, looked interesting)
Superman in the Seventies $3.99
Hulk Visionaries Peter David volumes 1 and 2 $3.99 (each)
Fantastic Four Flesh & Stone $2.49
The Punisher: River of Blood $2.99
Marvel Team Up: Freedom Ring $3.49
My total with a little bit of candy and tax was $42.62. It says I saved $156.04. I could have just saved $42 and not bought any of it. Anyway, I have some reading ahead of me.

Heck of a good deal on the Essential and Showcase volumes, I love those. I guess a lot of people aren't crazy about them because of the cheap paper and being in black and white, but the cheapskate in me enjoys getting a ton of reading for a cheap price.

I added one comic to this purchase, then paid. I bought Reid Fleming, The World's Toughest Milkman #1. I'm apparently on a bit of an Alan Moore kick right now, if you've seen some of my other posts lately. Now that I have all the LXG stuff through the current 1969 release, I may just make that my next big reading project. Hell, I may go really all in now that I have a Kindle and download all the original literary material!Elveen wrote:You will dig this. Re: Discuss Your Comic Purchases
My latest purchase was a batch of trades from the SciFi Book Club (sfbc.com). It's one of those deals, buy 6 books for a penny get 4 more within a couple years etc.
My initial 6 = Locke & Key HC's Volumes 1 through 4. Also picked up Simpsons/Futurama HC trade with Simpsons 1 reprint and a D&D hardcover (X-Mas gift for a bud).
After those 6 I had to buy 4 more. With these I added TPB Volumes 2 through 5 of Sandman. Sad to admit I never read past volume 1 and I've had these on my radar for years -- finally getting to them...One of these volumes was specially priced at a deep discount, so I still have one book left to fulfill my commitment after which I'll cancel membership.
Total price of all 10 HC/TPB's shipped = $60. The selection isn't the greatest but if they have trades you want it's an economical way to score good reads

Re: Discuss Your Comic Purchases
My affection for the FF was really rekindled when I read issues 376-379, and Sunday I purchased issues 371-375 and 380-393 from mycomicshop for around 25.00 including shipping. I decided not only to pick up issues following 379, but also to begin working my way backward as well.
They shipped today. I'm really looking forward to reading them.
Some of the highlights of this run are Wolverine clawing the Thing's face and the Thing consequently donning a steel mask, and The Torch accidentally burning down a university, or at least significantly damaging it during a fight and going on trial for doing so.

I just bought Top 10 49ers TPB. I really liked the first 2 Top 10 arcs (they are in my keep box). I've wanted to get this TPB for a while, but I am just so cheap I could not pull the trigger. Well I just I found it for 50% and I could not pass it up.

Superboy 1-11 for $17 shipped.
DC solicited the TPB this month. It only covers the first 6 issues and is $25. I wanted it in a collected format, but that price is ridiculous for half the run and in softcover too. What the hell is up with that pricing?

Re: Discuss Your Comic Purchases
Just bought Ex Machina tpbs 1-8 & 10 off Ebay for $43 shipped, which I thought was a great deal. I then bought vol. 9 for $11.99 to have the whole set. I really liked this comic when it first came out up until about issue #20 or so, then lost interest. Don't know why, so I decided to buy it and read it again.
