Re: BPRD
Baltimore is set in a completely different universe of its own. Not connected to Hellboy at all.vikingspawn wrote:Is it essential to read early Hellboy before getting into the BPRD run?
i'm still working my way to getting all of Hellboy and the other spinoffs in the universe....lobster Johnson, Witchfinder...Baltimore?
Yes, I would definitely start off reading Hellboy. Here's a chronological list of Hellboy, BPRD and all related stories:

BTW, Lobster Johnson and Witchfinder are, IMO, just as good as BPRD and genuinely build upon the Hellboy universe.

Re: BPRD
It would for sure help. In BPRD they always reference past Hellboy stories. But it is not essential.vikingspawn wrote:Is it essential to read early Hellboy before getting into the BPRD run?

Re: BPRD
So as good as BPRD is, the Lobster Johnson Mini, was bad. (I read it because that is the suggested reading order)
I disliked this story (I have the TPB). It was bad. One of my least liked stories I've read in an long time.
Now.....
Back to the good stuff, the BPRD books.

Wow, really? I thought it was pretty good. But then, I'm into reading pulp books like the Shadow, so that probably affects my opinion of it.Elveen wrote:So as good as BPRD is, the Lobster Johnson Mini, was bad. (I read it because that is the suggested reading order)

Not particularly. Not bad not good, I like the main characters much better. I really liked Rodger. I'm in The Black Goddess right now, I think Panya is REAL interesting.

Yeah, Roger is cool. Was cool. I was really ticked when Mignola killed him off. Then, like other fans, I hoped Abe would find a way to bring him back, but it's not going to happen.Elveen wrote:Lightning Strike wrote:Did you like him in the BPRD books?Elveen wrote:Yes. Re: BPRD
I just scored 56 BPRD issues for $42. Now I have to dig out my old early Hellboys and group these together to read. I like the fun part of organizing these runs.

Re: BPRD
Well Image is a continuing publisher. That has to make them more important than Valiant. Not better, but more of an accomplishment.Daniel Jackson wrote:Wow, Image makes the list, but not Valiant?Lightning Strike wrote:Newsarama's top ten great comic moments for the 1990's. Check out who's #1:
