CGC 9.8 MAGNUS 0......one of only 26 copies graded at 9.8!!

Post by BloodShot »

Hmmm. And just in time for my Birthday 8-) .

Quick question, Sean: does this one actually have the card? No way to verify it now unless you crack the slab open  . IOW, is this one you personally had sent in?

Reason I ask is because the other slabbed ones I've seen that have the card in the book state the following on the opposite side of the label:

"Contains Magnus trading card by Barry Windsor-Smith"

Please confirm either way.

TIA,

I did not personally send this copy in. To be honest, I'm just now seeing that there is such thing a Magnus 0 that came without a card. I assumed that the all had one when they started and they'd either been removed or they were still there. I thought that the grade of 9.8 ensured the cards presence as having it removed would count as damage to the book.

All of that being said, I cannot say that there is a card in the book. In fact, as sad as it makes me to say it, the lack of the extra comment on the CGC label leads me to believe that there is not a card. Hopefully one of the CGC experts here on the board can confirm one way or the other..

Sill, it's a Great example of a key book in the finest condition available.

No confirmation, just another clue. My 0s have the text "Mail-order edition" on them.

There is a card-less version that once upon a time used to be considered more valuable, but as it was considered easy to remove the card I think that it evened out.

I don't think there's ANYone here that'd dispute the condition of the book; I'm certainly not. It looks fantastic.

OTOH, the lack of the extra claimant on the right hand side of the label kind of made me think there was no card, either. I didn't wanna' come right out and say that since I've seen some inconsistancy on a few labels (on other books, too) in the past, but like I said, I've never seen a slabbed one that didn't say it, since there's no other way to confirm the card insert was actually there. I'm still not going to be the one to confirm that either way; ckb and a couple of other members have a bit more direct experience with CGC than I do, so I'll defer that question towards them.

I really hope I didn't come over as the bearer of bad news, but it's a qualifier that I'm sure someone else would've asked about if I didn't. Hopefully one of those guys can pop in and confirm (or dispute) the label issue.

Regardless, best of luck with this sale. Even without the card (if in fact it doesn't have it), it's still an awesome slab.

According to CGC there is no card in that book. It does not mean it was removed. Magnus 0's without the card were given to retailers in the same way GOLD logo books were. Magnus 0's with the card were only available through mail-in coupon redemption.

You'll find the two versions of the book listed separately on Greg's checklist and broken out as different books on the non-forum portion of Valiant comics.com. You can also check my gallery thread and the "Master Set" for examples of both versions of the book and their CGC 9.8 labels.

I just checked GPA on this book the other day, and my best reollection is that there is a $100 difference in the last sale price of the two versions of the book in 9.8 ($250/$150).

Thanks for the information CKB.

And don't worry about being the bearer of bad news Jay, I am glad thatnthe record is set straight so that everyone knows what is up for sale. Of course this means I probably won't get my money back out of this book, but that is my lesson learned.

I changed the title of the listing so that it would not be misleading. Thanks for the lesson everyone.. Now,... Bid away!

Sean,

Has NO one placed a bid on this yet :? ?

Seriously  ?

Well just to make sure some newbie doesn't troll by and snipe it for a buck, I'll get this party kick-started with an opening bid of $50.

Awesome!! I was getting worried!

For the record, I've checked and tabbed the 4 PM bids, and so far the winning bid is $100.

Also, to the PM question, PayPal is not only accepted, but preferred...

And finally, yes Bloodshot, today was the first time I received a bid.

Good luck to all!! I'll be keeping my eyes peeled all evening for any bids that come in.

Sean

(whew!!! I was scared that a last second 5 dollar bid would take it all!!! Thanks to all who are watching and / or bidding! Good luck)

For the record, I ship priority mail with insurance equal to or greater than the sale price. I pack things as my screen name "OCD" would imply. Four layers of cardboard surrounding the slab all of which is packed snugly in a thick cardboard box.

And of course, I foot the bill for all of the above! Bid early and often!!

I'll be here watching for PM bids up until 8:30 and just my two cents, open bids posted here in the thread just beg for a well informed snipe!

I will disclose all the bids, amount and time,(without names) after the auction is over and I welcome scrutiny. That way anyone who did not see their bid listed could call foul.

Have fun and good luck!!

As usual, the last bid I receive with a time stamp of, less than or equal to 8:30PM EST will be considered the last valid bid.

As of 6:25pm, the high bid is $105

nOTE!! I'm doing this eBay style, so the current high bid is not necessarily the maximum high bid. I'll be increasing the high bid in $5 increments to keep things from getting silly, meaning 1 cent increases etc. I hope this makes sense. Please post any questions. Remember, I'll post all of the bids at the end to keep full disclosure the rule.

Thanks for the interest!

$105 stands as the high bid at one hour to go....

FYI, my kitchen is now spotless and I've refreshed the screen 30 some odd times....

Haha! I might lose money on this sale, but I'm just dorky enough to be having fun...
