If anyone uses Herring & Robinson in Northern California as their bindery, please note that I just had the following 13 die stamps created. They're roughly 1" x 1" (some are 1 1/2" vertically) and are intended to be used on the spine.

If anyone plans on using Herring and Robinson, their prices and quality are outstanding! Cheaper in price than Library Binding and quality on a par with David Banks' products. I've had five books done there recently and will be sending in six more on Monday.

Won't be using your dies however as I already have the entire Valiant/Acclaim runs bound. Thanks anyway!

The Doctor Strange and Micronauts books cost me $18.50/each to be bound.

The Batman books were $23.50/each.

The kicker for me was I needed the Batman books to match a previous design I had bound at Library Binding. I am planning on binding Batman and Detective Comics from 1964 (the beginning of the "New Look" Batman) through 1990 (at least - although I may go through 2011 -- still considering that)

Here is how they matched my previous book:



1982 was the original and 1964, 1972, and 1973 are how Herring and Robinson matched.

I have the dust jacket for the Doctor Strange book completed, but need to print the Micronauts dust jacket. The Batmans will not be dust jacketed.



With these five books, I now have 151 bound volumes, collecting 3182 comics.

I'm waiting till after the Holidays but I'm planning on getting my Infinity Gauntlet in 2 Bindings and a Solar one. So which binder is the best (Ive been planning on Herring) and How would I print a dust Jacket?

I can agree with Steve, I too have used Herring and Robinson to bind my new books. I like them A LOT. The books are great and it is easy on the wallet. Here are a couple of my books.

Now to the point of my question, I have bound them before and regret parting with them. So I'm doing it again, but better this time. I am doing 2 Pre Unity books. I'm already in the process of picking up the books, by last count I need about 7 more to go.

My first question, would you include Vintage Magnus? I know the completest answer is yes, but it just interrupts the flow of the story. I'm debating on just leaving them out of this set.

Does anyone have a suggestion for the fold out on Solar 10? Is there a good image that could be scanned? Has anyone tackled this yet and had good results?

Now that the new HC's are out, would you include the extra's that are in it ie Harbinger?

If you didn't mind, would you include a Harbinger 0 Pink???

Lots of questions, I know, but you guys are the Valiant pros. I know the easy binding answer is, it's your book, do as you please. I do respect a lot of your guy's opinions and thought it would only be fair.

I would not include them. Those are Gold Key reprints, not "Valiant" comics per se. Yes, published prior to Unity, but in my opinion, those comics just aren't Valiant.

I used the Alpha and Omega TPB for the entire Solar story that was included in the Solar 1-10 inserts. I put it first as its the prelude to Solar 1. The TPB includes a scaled down version of the fold out.

Just my opinion, but no I wouldn't. Again, like Vintage Magnus, it's related but it's not pre-Unity Valiant -- it's VEI. Different company, different time.

Depends on condition. If in great condition, I'd find the reprint Blue version. If it's less than mint, why not. It wouldn't bring top dollar anyway and it would make your book kinda cool!

I'm about to get into the binding game and based on price and the sense of satisfaction I've read about from different sources, I think I'm gonna go with Herring & Robinson. I really think I'm going to start with some really basic binding projects to start off and get more ambitious as I go. I really want to bind volumes of Grant Morrison's complete Batman (including Arkham Asylum and Gothic) but based on how complex and tied together things get later on in the run (mainly the reading order between the later issues of Batman & Robin and Return of Bruce Wayne), I want to be extremely confident about what I'm doing before I dive into something as in-depth as that.

I think for starters I'm going to do some really straightforward stories/runs like Unity, Archer & Armstrong, 2nd Life of Dr. Mirage, and similar types of runs from the Big 2 and indies, like the Potts/Lee Punisher War Journal and X-Cutioner's Song.

I've seen what most people are doing with bindings of Morrison's Batman, but I've made a preliminary decision to not include things that aren't directly in Morrison's Batman story, ie, Return of Ra's al Ghul and Final Crisis. In fact, I think the 2 issues of Batman that were immediately post-RIP shouldn't be included because they are directly tied to the Final Crisis storyline more than they are Batman's solo story. I think that Batman #s 701 and 702 make the incorporation of Final Crisis completely unnecessary and serve to make Morrison's Batman run effective as a self-contained story if placed immediately after the last chapter of RIP. However, I'm not entirely sure about the reading order of the latter issues of B&R and RoBW, which should be intertwined, but I'm not exactly sure how. Any suggestions?

Do you usually just print from a color laser printer or do you actually go somewhere to have it printed the way you want it?

I generally use a 24lb paper and print from a color laser. I've tried ink jet and while that might work "IF" you only have to print on one side, double sided printing is bad (due to the ink saturation).

I've never even tried going to a printing service like Kinkos for pages. I used to have Kinkos print my dust jackets, but they became prohibitively expensive.

Thanks, homes. The main thing I'm thinking about needing to scan/print are pages from backup stories that share a page with the main story; ie, if I bound a Rucka Batwoman volume and included Rucka's Question backup features from Detective Comics, I know there are some that share story pages with the main feature. The only other thing I can think of is designing and printing a table of contents page. Does the paper you use match comic page size or do you have to cut it down to get it to match?

They were actually done in imitation leather -- same price point as buckram. I asked for a Navy Blue imitation leather.

I use a regular 8.5x11 paper and then cut it to size. I buy the 24lb stock at Office Depot and got my "office-sized" 11x17 paper cutter there as well.
