New Mutants 98 has always been a hot book, but it's doing remarkably well right now moving 100-125 for NM copies.

I'm pretty sure I cashed in my multiple copies a while back, should have held on to one or two.

did a quick look at the completed eBay listing, looks like 9.6's go for between $100-$150 and 9.8's are going for about $300.

Over the last week or two I sold 2 copies of Daredevil 2 from the current series at 7.99 ea, and 5 copies at 9.99 ea, all plus shipping, all on the Bay. Uncanny X-Force sets remain hot, too.

tanord wrote: If I owned a shop I would never sell a comic over cover price on release day. Comic shop dealers already get a 40% discount on comics wholesale. By selling them at cover price they are making a decent profit if they sell out a whole bunch of them at cover price. To charge more than cover price such as $10 per copy on release day just shows how greedy a lot of comic shops are. This just puts off the comic fan that walks into a shop and expects to pay cover price, then seeing the price mark up on release day, only to turn away shaking their head thinking, "This comic shop is greedy."

Definitely. But you have to do something to stop the speculators to wiping you out. Maybe just limit everyone to one copy?

I have a had stores and in the UK things dont move as fast as over with you guys, so i never raised prices on release day or week.
I did remove stock if i thought it would sky rocket and see people popping in to only speculate.
Origin # 1 was soul destroying, i just had them under the counter after orders were filled, as we ordered heavily and kept people happy for months at cover price while others were selling for 10+

Making a short term profit is now possible for people with ebay, where before you either traded and made profit or just bought extras and hoped you might sell them at some point.
The ebay angle has also allows some strange pricing we may not have seen before from the sublime to the ridiculous.
Like all hot books with good print runs, timing is everything, JLA and any other books from the new launch will be easily had in no time. The only books likely to hold prices are ones without quick 2nd. 3rd prints etc, which is not the case here.
Aside from speculation, there are many people who are happy to pay $10 for a new book instead of waiting, though these buyers are probably seen as and counted with speculators. Though once these buyers are sated, who will buy the overpriced books?
I see the whole thing as rather frustrating and not helpful, but retailers have never had so long and so many reasons to order extra copies, so what can you do?
Yeah LCSs are in a tough spot here. They could sell them off at cover, but limit sales would be the only way I guess. Or they could hold a few out to flip themselves and sell the rest at cover limiting to one per customer. I got no problem with a store flipping a few copies to make some extra cash if they have covered all their orders and their locals arent asking for copies.

I have no problem selling ASM 101 reprints every time I get them in stock.

Watch Detective Comics 854 and the set of them begin to climb. Batwoman is a hit
and back issue sales are rising. Last time I checked Batwoman 0 was selling well
since it was overlooked on 52 launch.

Yeah, I live in Metro Phoenix too. I'm only doing a bit of selling on the Bay right now, though, and not much studying of the back issue market. Once in a while I run across an interesting sale or two. Spider-Man 654, the first Flash Thompson as the new Venom seems to be doing okay right now.

Sold a Walking Dead Special Edition #1 for $28 plus shipping.

And another Detective 871 for $18 plus shipping. I'm absolutely convinced this is a future classic book. I've seen it go low on ebay when there are several copies out there, but I've sold several copies between $15-25.

Scott Snyder's (who's now writing the main Batman title) first issue of Detective Comics. It's also the first part of the Black Mirror, a story that I've seen placed on a lot of "Best Of" lists for this year.

I picked up the new "Fatale" from Image. Bleedingcool is speculating that the monster cover is the rarer of the two. I was at the shop and they only put the monster covers on the shelf (about four by noon) but none of the chick cover.

Gonna group this comic with my Fatale/Broadway set.

Dark Horse Presents #7 with the Hellboy cover looks to be the scarcer of the 2 covers that has some potential to go up. It has the first new Hellboy story since they killed him off in Hellboy: Fury #3 back in August. I don't see any DHP #7 Hellboy covers on ebay so far. I got lucky with a copy from a shop tonight on a re-order.
