Fair enough. I enjoy dbest4u's posts (not just for the obvious reason) so yes, I wanted you to see his view as well. I seriously don't think it was as negative as you read it. You're not the only one who has been screwed on ebay. I think you two both mainly are angry at bad sellers and I do hope you can talk it out instead of cussing.

Hey, you got to realize that others have the right to be as angry as you are. When the seller accepted your offer he screwed everyone else who could be interested. He made a deal with you and renegated, so he screwed you big time. So of course you are angry. By putting the book on ebay he also made a deal with the rest of the world to let the auction run its course. This he also renegated on. So you are not the only one who should be angry here.

It's up to the seller what he does with his item, not you. Unfortunately he lacked a thing called honor.

Certainly your offer was capitalism in action. Missing the deal you negotiated was also capitalism.

I had a similar thing happen to me once. It was not a Valiant item. It was two items, one of which I wanted, the other I had no interest in. The difference was the seller had a Buy It Now price set for the two items. I was not willing to pay the BIN for just the one item I wanted, so I asked him if he could come up with a price for just the one item I wanted and I would take it. The seller, instead of just taking down the auction and letting me buy the item off eBay, instead re-listed the item I wanted with the BIN price we agreed to, and someone else ended up buying it before I saw the listing. Needless to say, I was a bit *SQUEE* off.

That being said, I do agree that sellers who start an item as an auction should keep it as an auction, instead of accepting an offer to stop the auction early. They usually end up screwing themselves by accepting the offer, as most of the time they could have made more money by just letting the auction run. It also *SQUEE* off a lot of people who have the item on their watch lists and are planning on making a bid.

I understand being mad about a listing ending prematurely like that. Sure it kills your hopes of maybe owning the said item. It's def happened to me as well!

But I dont see the difference of someone making an offer and there being a "Buy it Now" listed there in the first place. If he had listed it with a buy it now of $65 in the first place and someone bought it, would you still be complaining about it not being fair to the rest of us? It just doesnt make sense to me.

It's not like my offer was a low ball offer or me trying to screw this guy over. I looked at Gregs price guide and then added $5, so if anything it was more than fair.
Also I am not trying to cuss anyone out, it's just enfuriating when I am being accused of being the bad guy here when i am most certainly not. The guy who verbally made a deal with me and then sold it someone else is the bad guy, which was my point in the first place, but for some reason I ended up having to defend myself for simply trying to buy something.

As far as my post goes, note that I did not blame the person (yourself or anyone else) making the offer to end an auction early for a set price, but the seller who accepted the offer to end an auction early. Anyone would want to get as good of a deal as they can, so I don't blame someone for trying.

As for the seller, if you know exactly what you want and expect to get as a final price for an item, then set a BIN. If you start an auction, you should be prepared to wait for the results and either be pleasantly surprised, do as well as expected, or be bitterly disappointed with the results.

As far as the difference between a BIN and someone stopping an auction...

With the Buy it Now, everyone has the same chance, if it's a bargain, it will just go to the first lucky SOB that stumbles across the listing. First come, first served is the rule of BIN.

With an auction, the first person who comes across the listing might really want it, but decides that he would like to bid on the item and see how good a price he can get it for via an auction format. Then, someone else comes along, decides to make an offer, and then the first person doesn't even have a chance at the item, all because they thought the seller was going to be honorable and let his auction run.

This whole thing could've easily been avoided had the seller used at least 1% of his brain before he relisted it. All he needed to do was add an "Or Best Offer" option (with a minimum accepted bid of $65), then advised you that he'd done so. Once you'd submitted your Best Offer price of $65 (as you'd both previously agreed upon), he should've accepted the offer. All in less than the time it takes for Minute Rice.

Some eGay sellers have NO clue ...

the person selling it can do anything they want with their item. I think if he reached an agreement with one specific person, then (I believe) there is a way to set it up so only that member can see it. But also, the seller only wants 1 thing, to make $$$$. He does not care where it comes from.

There IS something called customer service, and this buyer did not do a good job on it. But, really he listed his book on ebay to sell it, he did, that is all he really needs.

A few weeks back I had my eye on a large lot of about 100 comics that had a 4-5 main Valiants: Timewalker, shadowman, armorines vvss and a few other gold books; as well as an assortment of various titles. I had a snipe bid and there were no bids at $14.99 with a few hours left, then the seller closed the auction. I'm sure some idiot tipped him off, and when I asked why he closed the auction he never got back to me.

It's possible that the guy on eBay was afraid a sniper would get it for the opening bid and closed the auction. I'm not saying it's right, but I'd bet on that more than anything.

Maybe, but he re-listed the auction without 4 of the VVSS books, which he ran in a separate auction. Clearly he didn't know what he had, and some buffoon tipped him off, oh well.

I made the mistake of arguing with a popular member who rather than just say "hey that sucked", instead decided to lecture me on the ridiculous premise that I screwed the rest of the world out of the auction because I offered the seller more than book value for his item. GOD IM AWFUL

I think you'll find this forum is pretty different than the norm (which is why I stay here). Arguing (in this fashion) is pretty rare and most people are just here to joke around and have a good time. There are so many other forums I've visited where everyone is fighting and name calling that it becomes hard for me to stick around. Greg does a great job at keeping this forum a nice place to visit.
